Hello and welcome to this MayDay special mix by Justin Schumacher. Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY by way of The Bronx, Justin Schumacher is a product of 90s hip hop and rave culture. After over a decade of hard work and dedication he has emerged as one of NYC's most promising talents. 

What can you tell us about this mix brother? 
I mixed in some deeper grooves in this mix alongside the usual raw bangin stuff. 

How is the underground techno scene in NY these days? 
The techno scene is pretty great here. Can’t complain. So many clubs, warehouses and loft spaces with wicked lineups week in and week out. It's booming here right now.

Which clubs is keeping it real and worth checking out? 
Output of course. That place is just the perfect environment for techno. Such a dope club with an insane system. Verboten just opened up in Brooklyn as well. Sankeys/Spektrum has had some great lineups so far....also a really nice club. Some of the best parties are in these interesting warehouse and loft spaces tucked away in corners of the metropolis. the afterhours scene is also phenomenal.

What/who influences your style? 
I draw inspiration from all angles, eras, and regions of techno and house music. But my sound is geared primarily for the dancefloor. DJ's like Ben Sims, Dave Clarke, Jeff Mills, Ben Klock, DVS!.....those guys throw down the way I like it best. 

What is your techno dream?
Well I'll say what everyone says first and that's to play at Berghain haha. But also to be able to quit my dayjob and do music in general full time. Whether that's touring around the world djing, producing forward thinking techno and house music, and hip hop as well. That's the goal.

Dutch techno legend Steve Rachmad, aka STERAC, joins the Klockworks ranks with an outstanding four-track EP, set for release on June 23rd.

For almost 20 years, Steve Rachmad has concentrated on the kind of melodic, grooved club tracks that DJs love, releasing on labels such as Music Man, Rejected, Tresor and Wolfskuil. Over this time, he has been responsible for some of techno's true classics, 'Astronotes', 'Asphynx' and 'Thera' to name a few. The particular tracks signed by Ben Klock for KW12 draw from a number of the styles STERAC has explored over the years, and each add something else of their own.

Opener 'Track 2' is punchy and brilliantly executed, setting the tone for the rest of the EP. It centres around coarse mid-range notes that develop throughout and bind the warm lows with high-frequency hiss.

Rachmad uses a similar sound palette on 'Rotary', a track that featured prominently in Ben Klock's Fabric mix CD. This time he opts for a more spacious mix, allowing the unpredictable texture of hardware to create a retro bassline sure to get any crowd moving.

'In Circles' is deep and moody, but with uplifting strings and a Detroit feel. The strings give 'In Circles' the 3-dimensional, sci-fi quality that often marks out techno of the highest order, they are bouncy but reserved in their arrangement, keeping the track's energy in perfect balance.

'Scheepsrecht' ends this release in style. The producer weaves the core elements with canny arrangement and an endlessly-dynamic mix, resulting in hypnotic, hard-as-nails club gear.

Bringing old-school production values up-to-date and keeping that unmistakable Dutch flavour, STERAC shows another side to the Klockworks sound. KW12 is sure to be on constant rotation amongst techno DJs of all styles, and will prove itself to be yet another essential Rachmad record.

Belgium based Tom Hades has become as something of a tastemaker in today’s world of techno. 
With years of experience in playing shows & even more in producing he exactly knows how to stick out of the masses with his really own signature sound. 
Tom started making music with his long-time friend Marco Bailey, with whom he also had his first releases with on labels like Drumcode. Techno always was, and still is, the only kind of music Tom could express his very own vision of music with. 
Tom’s sound always has a strong emphasis on straightforward baselines and eternal catching melodies – it is made for dancing! Often Tom also brings a certain melancholy to it, which enables a really unique listening experience. The focus on a typical Hades track is also always on strong percussion elements by bringing a fresh vibe to the end product, that saturates his audience as well as his fellow producer and DJ colleagues. 
His productions obviously align well with the selections Tom makes while being behind the decks. A set of Tom always focuses on keeping the tempo and strong melodies, while adjusting a certain groove. His sets combine classic productions, which he showcases in his weekly classic Sunday picks, with more current ones. For Tom creating the atmosphere through groove & strong repetitive melodies is the main goal. 
This year will see Tom releasing his productions on international renown labels, as well as expanding his global tour schedule. Tom Hades is a steady part of today’s techno scene!
