Jazzanova consume to welcome a series of excellent remixes of tracks form their latest and great album, The Pool. Next up is the legendary house shaman Osunlade, who serves up four fantastic versions of ‘Everything I Wanted’ feat. Charlotte OC. 

Osunlade is the Yoruba Records boss and spiritual character with an uplifting, jazzy, deep and afro tinged house sound. Born in St Louis, Missouri, he is a hugely prolific musician, composer and producer who brings spellbinding moods and grooves to everything he does, as these four new remixes prove once again. 

Opening things up is the Yoruba Soul Mix, which flips the original into a steamy, surging house track with smeared synths propping up the expressive vocal and loose percussion. An instrumental version of this one allows the soft edged keys and supple rubber drums to come to the fore and cast their spell on the dance floor. 

Then comes a Beats Mix which is all about the woody, organic drums and scattered hits. The result is a warm and infectious track that is perfectly designed to get bodies moving, and last of all is a Yoruba Soul Stripped Mix. The fantastic vocal is the centre piece, with knocking percussion and underlapping drums all adding to the spine tingling nature of this most soulful house track. 

Over the past decade the German group, consisting of Alexander Barck, Claas Brieler, Jürgen von Knoblauch, Stefan Leisering and Axel Reinemer, have worked on a multitude of projects. They’ve toured live with the band, hosted radio shows, DJed, remixed tracks by Hugh Masekela, Joe Bataan, Aron Ottignon, Malika Ayane (and many more), curated their labels Sonar Kollektiv and Notes On A Journey and recorded a live studio sessions album of some of their most beloved work. It’s been 23 years since they first got together, and their latest album drew from all those years of experience while exploring new territories.

‘A Safe and Happy Place’ is an enticing leftfield party anthem, the lead single from the Powerdance album ‘The Lost Art Of Getting Down’, which is forthcoming on Classic Music Company. Previously self-released by the group led by Classic head Luke Solomon, this soft-hued, acid-streaked disco shuffle was written with long-time collaborators Lance Desardi and Terry Grant alongside Chicago-born producer Nick Maurer and features Terry, Nick and Fi McCluskey on vocals. This time accompanied by a new remix from JKriv, ‘A Safe And Happy Place’ is a dancefloor sanctuary. Come join the Legion of Boogie Down.

Hifi Sean’s 2018 record ‘Lost without U’, that featured Inner City’s Paris Grey on vocals, was a soulful disco lament fitting for the end of a long hot summer. Now, friends of Hifi Sean, Horse Meat Disco take on remixing duties to deliver their take on this bittersweet love song, and give it new life for 2019. With a string of upcoming Glitterbox releases themselves, it’s unsurprising that Horse Meat Disco take the job on with ease, stripping back the live instrumentals of the original. Their remix has a more club-inclined sound without losing the soulful spirit of Hifi Sean’s work.

For BBE Music’s landmark 500th release, the label joins forces with Louie Vega, Leroy Burgess and Patrick Adams to revisit ‘Barely Breaking Even’, the iconic track after which the label is named.

Coaxed into the studio together by BBE founder Peter Adarkwah, Grammy winning House music hero Louie Vega, arranger extraordinaire and New York disco royalty Patrick Adams, plus the song’s original writer (and king of boogie) Leroy Burgess soon got to work. Even given the caliber of those involved in this special session, the results are simply exceptional.

Featuring live strings by The Apple Hill String Quartet arranged by Adams and Burgess, Vega’s ‘Boogie Mix’ stays faithful to the Universal Robot Band original, with potent vocal performances and a tough new groove for 2019.

It was at the string recording session for the boogie version that Louie Vega unveiled his ‘NYC House Mix’ to the assembled musicians, at which point he and Leroy Burgess quickly arranged a brand new horn section and re-wrote the song’s melody to compliment the track’s accelerated pace. What the team emerged with is so much more than a remix- it’s a unified call-back to two golden eras; that of disco-boogie and that of New York House. And it’s beautiful.

Born and raised in The Netherlands, Tommy Largo has been spinning Disco, Funk and Hip-hop in his country since the 80s. He became popularized as a producer of Underground House music with his EP for Lost My Dog in 2005. He has continued to release tracks through numerous labels including Robsoul and Guesthouse Music. Tommy launched his first label Deepjacking Recordings in late 2012 with the first EP 'Good Inside.' The focus of Deepjacking Recordings is to deliver tracks reminiscent of old school Deep House with the momentum of the driving beats from the Jacking House movement that is prevalent today. The term ‘Deepjacking’ is evident in the sound of all the current and future releases.

In the span of his career he has secured residencies across his country, and continues to tour all over the world. In addition to DJing his productions have made him a solid producer in the house music industry with his tracks continually appearing in the top charts of Stompy, Traxsource, and Beatport. His productions have also appeared on various compilation CDs such as Mushroom Jazz, OM, Fabric. Tommy's success as a producer equally matches his DJ skills, and has established him with a busy schedule that also includes sound mastering for many well known record labels.
