It is said that our ancestors who tilled soils in the night utilized CHANT & SONG to maintain through slave labor. The colloquial antebellum slur was then coined “mooncricket”, to mimic their CHANTS & SONGS emerging from fields similar to restless crickets in the night. 

Surely CHANT & SONG is a technology used to maintain at the backdrop of state sanctioned horror. And those that employ this sacred technology are practitioners, not of survival, but of life’s truest rhythm… love. Therefore the Black predecessors who escape into the night and chant and sing alongside crickets in the marsh converge in this sacred knowing.

Tonia is a singer-songwriter, influenced by R&B/Pop divas of the 80’s and 90’s with traces of Folk and Soul.

Originally from Detroit, Michigan and currently based in New York City, she is actively involved in the singer-songwriter music scene. Having performed at venues such as Gold Sounds, Gin Fizz, NuBlu, and Parkside Lounge.

She is a frequent collaborator of the Blank Label Records Soul Sessions at the Renaissance Midtown Hotel and performed in the second installment of the XIIDC Sessions in Washington, DC.

Her second EP titled “Lift You Up”, releases in Spring of 2018.
