90s inspired minimix

EPISODE 035 - J GUY (1991-1993 UK Rave Mix)

For episode 035 we welcome our newest guest (J GUY) to the mixcast for a special episode, focusing on tracks taken from the early 90's rave seen in the UK. J wanted to share a few words on the mix:

“With this mix I wanted to do something different and away from my usual go to genres, so I chose one which i've been listening to increasingly over the past 6 months or so. This genre is UK Hardcore, which was one of the genres present during the rave era in England from the late 80's to mid 90's. Hardcore only really existed from 91-93(ish), when it began to morph into what became Jungle, with the exception of a few DJs such as Ratpack, DJ Vibes and Hattrixx who continued to produce it. It relies heavily on sampling from Acid House which came prior along with breaks commonly taken from Hip Hop beats but often keeping a 4x4 kick pattern. I love the creative sampling used in it from tv shows, other huge tracks of the time, the moon landing tapes etc and other random but interesting places. The most famous people to make this type of music would probably be The Prodigy and N.R.G. along with others. I hope you enjoy listening to this mix as much as I enjoyed recording it. JG".
