It’s not often that a breakthrough producer manages to cause major hype after just one release but when that artist is from the UK, putting out a brilliant EP on Moodymann’s Mahogani Music, you start to realize how it happened in Dan Shake’s case. Now it’s time for Dan to build on this incredible start and from the way things are looking it’s safe to say it’s all going in the right direction. Another rising star from the UK is Wolf Music regular Medlar who has been making serious waves the last 5 years. Remixes for the likes of Glenn Astro and Disclosure have all helped put him in the spotlight and his debut LP Sleep from 2013 delivered in spades. So when the news that these two were joining forces for a collaborative project reached us here at D.O.G we wanted in on the action.
The lead track entitled Walk has all the hallmarks of a long-lost Detroit house classic but with a UK touch that adds just the right amount of polish to the dusty MPC beats and phasing rhodes chord. Soulphiction adds a slightly deeper edge on his remix but keeps the vocals in place and pushes the beats in an altogether housier direction. Finally we have I On You completing the EP in fine style with a more soul-tinged track but keeping the groove and bassline positively roughed up ensuring things stay raw and underground.

I chose to blend my favorite melodies from two songs: Carol of the Bells and Veni, Veni, Emmanuel (O Come O Come Emmanuel) into a seamless piece of music. Because of the complex nature of these songs, I decided not to include lyrics - rather to accentuate my favorite pieces of each song with cello, fiddle and mythical vocals. More than 8 years ago, Ben Cooper AKA Radical Face, started crafting the story of a fictitious, and sometimes otherworldly, 19th century family. In 2011, he brought those characters to life in The Family Tree: The Roots, which was the first installment of a three-part, stand-alone album series based around the Family Tree he created.  He recorded alone in the shed behind his mom’s house in Jacksonville, Florida.
 
Radical Face will release the second installment to the series, The Family Tree: The Branches on October 22. Certain instrumentations and melodies that represent a “family member” will reappear in the second album as a continuation of the story or descendent. Just as The Family Tree: The Roots was limited to instruments that would have been accessible during that era of the story, The Family Tree: The Branches will progress in production by including instruments that would have become available in the next era of the story set from 1860-1910.

Anjundeep present the second EP in the newly founded ‘Explorations’ series showcasing four fresh faces to the label in Amateur Dance, Luttrell, Tontario and Gacha Bakradze.

Opening the EP, upcoming Melbourne based producer, Amateur Dance, with ‘You Give Me Butterflies’; making his Anjunadeep debut earlier this year with a highly rated remix of Way Out West’s ‘Tuesday Maybe’.

Next up, Luttrell ‘Away', giving a taste of his first solo project on the label while taking a moment from notable Stateside success as part of California duo The M Machine.

Tontario, a young Finnish producer from Vaasa, has been making waves in recent months in the blog world with his signature melodic sound, as shown on ‘Late’.

Rounding off the EP with ‘Girl’, talented Georgian producer Gacha Bakradze. While releasing under three different aliases, Gacha has built an impressive back catalog with albums on the iconic Apollo Records and most recently a well received EP on Andre Lodemann’s Best Works Recs with support from BBC Radio 1’s Annie Mac.

Russ Davies has an enviable back catalogue under a number of aliases, and his latest project as Aiiso continues a fine run of form. Debuting the moniker on the label’s inaugural ‘Explorations’ EP series in early 2016 with ‘Point Of Return’, Russ follows up with the four track 'Your Love Is An Echo EP’.

The EP opens with title track 'Your Love Is An Echo’, a fan favourite from the label’s recent iTunes dance #1 album ‘Anjunadeep 08’, which features Russ' own vocoder vocals on top of a languid balearic groove. Next up, brooding roller, ‘Hopeful For A Sign’; a fusion of retro synths and delicate piano melodies. ‘Cisca’ combines throwback progressive house elements with a killer bass groove, before rounding off the EP with the blissed out sounds of ‘Autumn Leaves’.

Following in the footsteps of rising talents Luttrell, Theo Kottis and Aiiso, young Finnish producer Tontario marks a new wave of talent joining Anjunadeep over the past 12 months. Making his first label outing last summer on the second installment of the ‘Explorations’ various artist EP series, followed by a pair of contributions on 2016’s iTunes Dance #1 album ‘Anjunadeep 08’, Tontario now presents his debut EP on the label with ‘Solitude’. 

Title track ‘Solitude’ is an atmospheric roller featuring dreamy vocals from fellow Finn, Lake Jons. A stand out moment from ‘Anjunadeep 08’ alongside his stunning rework of Ólafur Arnalds’s ‘Öldurót’. The EP’s second track ‘Late’ blends gentle grooves with blissful piano melodies before ‘Passing’ serves up darker dance floor vibes with Tontario’s trademark cinematic touch. Closing the EP is ‘Revenge’, a reflective deep cut that layers strings alongside haunting keys and layered organic sounds.
