Ash on the wind, the banners are torn,
Silence before the storm.
Footsteps echo in hollow halls,
Names of the fallen whispered on walls.
The desert breathes a ghostly sigh,
And every heart knows why.

Dawn, you cruel and golden flame,
You light the sky but not our shame.
We stand though the end is near,
For those we lost, we keep them here.
Dawn, remember our vow—
We fight, though the sun burns now.

Steel in hand, our eyes are dry,
No tears left to cry.
Shadows move where sisters bled,
The living walk beside the dead.
We count the drums beyond the dune,
And wait for death or noon.
