overshadow what I’ve done.
But the night keeps creeping closer,
and the road feels worn and frail —
Every mile I leave behind me
still leaves a shadow on my trail.

I’ve lost a few battles,
but I’m still in the game.
There’s a fire in my heart
that’ll never turn pale —

Had a woman once who loved me,
but I loved the highway more.

I’d be debt-free by now, my dear
But the past keeps calling—right on cue

From that mutt that bit my hand in your dad’s backyard
I cleaned the fridge, threw out the sauce
