Although this song was written by me about one of my most loved places in the world, I heard Nat sing it when we were figuring out how to present it, and I just had to have her stick with the lead vocals as she sings it so beautifully, even though she has never set foot in the great Mountain State (now she wants to!). So we just changed "she" to "he" and it all fell into place. It tells the story of someone who has watched a lover leave and seeks solace in the Wonderful and Wild of West Virginia. The state became a bit of a passion for me since I first visited our friends in Keyser when I was still a boy. And it still represents a place of reflection and spirit to me. A place where one can find themselves and answer the deeper questions perhaps. And that's what happens in this song. It celebrates the wonders of this beautiful place even while it describes the complicated challenges of this world. This is dedicated to the entire Campbell family, without whom I'd not know the beauty I've tried to capture in this simple song. I especially want to recognize Margaret & Richard as the head of that Campbell clan, bless them both in heaven. As long as there are mountains and rivers in West Virginia, their memory will live large.

Across The Line

This song was written by Chuck Berry while in prison and was recorded
in 1964.  This " poor boy" traveled across dozen states by bus, train and
plane to get to his promise land (California).  It was also recorded by
Elvis Presley .  Remember, Paul Revere and the Raiders, Freddy Weller,
had a hit with it also.  Louisiana's own Johnny Allen also had a hit with
it here in cajun land.  Having a little fun with this one.

'Memento of a Sunset', a nostalgic song twinged with melancholy, has several sub stories but finally resolves positively. The recording for streaming is from a Twitter livestream on 16 Jan. Another version is on One World Music Radio along with ‘Dream of the Wild Rose’ (#7 in Jan), ‘Your Heart Carried Me Home’—all placing on the single charts, top 50 two months in a row. So much talent from my part of the country (SW Louisiana, SE Texas) George Jones, Tracy Byrd, Mark Chesnutt, George Straight, Janis Joplin, Edgar Winters and the list goes on.  Tracy Lawrence sang with a Louisiana based band in 1988-1990.  He was shot 4 times by robbers in may 1991 which delayed his first album Sticks and Stones.  He was named top new male country vocalist in 1993.  He continues to create great music.  Just one of my favorite Tracy Lawrence songs.

Bob Seger once told the New York Times that "Like A Rock was inspired partly by the end of a relationship that had lasted for 11 years. You wonder where all that time went? But beyond that, it expresses my feeling that the best years of my life may have been in my late teens with no special commitments and no career". This iconic tune was used in an advertising campaign for Chevrolet trucks that ran from 1991 - 2004, making it indelibly associated with the vehicles. The song helped sell a lot of Silverados, and is considered one of the best choices for an ad campaign in The History of Music. 'Like a Rock' was the Title song from the thirteenth studio album of same name by American singer-songwriter Bob Seger, released in 1986. My own version humbly presented here with all due respect and appreciation for yet another Bob Seger Sparkly Gem. Did it in my own way, featuring Nylon Strings and Tele Tones floating around in the background.

I had posted this song a few months back last year with just acoustic guitar, vocals and harmonica. Russell Sinfield heard it in his own special way and wanted to add something to it. He took up the tempo a little and then got Gary Reeves to add percussion. He then did the bass himself and finally had Gavin Stephens to do the trumpet. I was quite blown away with the end result! I hope you don’t mind giving this song a listen again. These are three supremely talented artists and I can’t thank them enough!

Another one of those amazing Traditional songs where the original songwriter is unknown. Kurt Cobain resurrected it when he did an MTV Unplugged version. He was a huge fan of Leadbelly, who also recorded and performed various versions of it. The legendary Bill Monroe also covered it, among others. The song has been referred to often as "In The Pines" or "Where Did You Sleep Last Night" and sometimes referenced using both in the Title. This version features an AcoustaTronic approach and I revised the lyrics based on a number of different versions of the song in a way that made the most sense to me, personally. Also, finally figured out another opportunity to use my Native American Bamboo Kiowa Flute in the background......just because I've been trying to find a way to integrate it into one of these tunes in some way. Once there was a Band....aptly named 'The Band'.....They were very much THE Band, too. Featuring Bob Dylan, Robbie Robertson, Levon Helm (RIP), among many other most memorable contributing Musicians in their Halcyon Days. That was many Moons and Tunes ago, but this remains my very Favorite of the many Classic songs The Band wrote, performed and recorded. I grew up listening to country music along with early Rock & Roll. Chuck
Berry was nicknamed "Father of Rock & Roll.  With such songs as
Maybellene, Roll Over Beethoven, Rock & Roll Music and Johnny B. Goode he topped the charts in the 1950's.  Every guitar player of my
generation played or tried to play Johnny B Goode.  He died March 18, 2017. No one does it like Chuck Berry, so I decided to do my version of Nadine as a tribute to the man.  Thanks

Knocking On Your Screen Door (Very raw John Prine cover by Tony)

I knew at an early age that music would be a part of my life forever. In music I found my self-esteem and a way to make people feel. I began singing in public at nine years old and playing drums at thirteen.  In the tenth grade I auditioned to play drums and percussion with the South Georgia College and got the "gig". I performed in many musical productions there until I graduated high school and joined the army.  I continued performing in the NCO clubs while serving.
After obtaining the G.I. Bill I attended the University of South Carolina, where I played with several local bands. In 1982 I graduated college and taught special education until retirement last May. There, I witnessed the magic of music through my students.
I now enjoy the peace and solitude of a farm in the middle of "God's Country" here in Tennessee. With much help from family and friends, I am able to share my original songs with you.
I sincerely thank you for taking a bit of your time with me. I hope you receive a blessing from a song or two and as you listen, I hope you hear my heart in each and every one.  Tony
