Barbara Morrison has been featured on over 20 recordings choosing her repertoire from a wide array of genres from traditional jazz and blues to gospel and pop. Her powerful voice, with its two-and-a-half-octave range, allows Ms. Morrison to belt out down-home, soul-stirring blues in a manner which places her firmly in the tradition of Etta Jones, Helen Humes, Irene Reid, and Dinah Washington. Her impassioned renditions of favorite torch songs reveal a consummate musicianship and a firm grasp of a song’s deepest meaning. Khruangbin is a three-piece band from Texas, formed of Laura Lee on bass, Mark Speer on guitar, and Donald Johnson on drums. Taking influence from 1960's Thai funk - their name literally translates to "Engine Fly" in Thai - Khruangbin is steeped in the bass heavy, psychedelic sound of their inspiration, Tarantino soundtracks and surf-rock cool. Khruangbin's exotic, individual sound is captured at their spiritual home, a remote barn deep in the Texas countryside where their first rehearsals took place. Debut album ‘The Universe Smiles Upon You’ is scheduled for release at the end of this year.

The Texan trio is formed of Laura Lee on bass, Mark Speer on guitar, and Donald “DJ” Johnson on drums.

‘The Universe Smiles Upon You’ was recorded at their spiritual home, a remote barn deep in the Texas countryside where their first rehearsals took place. The band listened to a lot of different types of music on the long drives out to the country but their favourites were the '60s and '70s Thai cassettes gleaned from the cult Monrakplengthai blog and compilations of southeast Asian pop, rock, and funk. This had a heavy impact on the direction of the band, the scales they used, and the inflection of the melodies; which coupled with the spaciousness of the Texan countryside culminated in Khruangbin forming their exotic, individual sound. 

“We feel like there is an ease that comes from being immersed in a space, away from the distractions of the city and everyday life. We make our music in a barn, in the Texas hill country, because it makes sense to us. Being there allows us to make music that comes naturally, and that’s what we wanted this album to be. We wanted to make a record that just let the music happen, and we hope that’s what you can hear.”

The arrangement is intended for the "Nutcracker in Jazz" (last December 2015) ballet concert. It's a ballet opera show (adapted from Nutcracker ballet) accompanied by live jazz big band orchestra conducted by Ricky Leonardi. The show held by Ballet Sumber Cipta, one of the most notable ballet studio in Jakarta. The music arranged by the students and teachers from Sjuman School of Music, I'm one of the student.

The Jōst Project
Walk This Way
Devoted to interpreting the rock-related “standards” in a contemporary jazz format, The Jōst Project creates an exciting new connection between the many listeners for whom the music of Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, the Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Donovan, Simon and Garfunkel, the Beach Boys and others are as familiar as the Great American Songbook to prior generations of music lovers. The group’s enthusiastic audiences have expressed appreciation and pleasure in hearing this diverse repertoire of songs performed in the modern jazz idiom by this acoustic, almost chamber-like ensemble.
The Jōst Project is a jazz collective initially formed in 1990 by vibraphonist Tony Miceli and acoustic bassist Kevin MacConnell, with the purpose of performing the rock music of the 1950s-1970s in a jazz format. The seeds of this idea were planted in Miceli’s 2005 recording “Hippie Jazz” and when he heard vocalist/arranger Paul Jost with the Antfarm Quartet, he felt a strong musical connection that led him to convene the Modern Rock Ensemble. Miceli’s vibraphone stirs echoes of the famed Modern Jazz Quartet with Milt Jackson, and in this latest combination, Jost invokes blues, mainstream, and scat stylings in his unique introspective way bringing out the emotions contained in the songs. The solid, innovative drumming of young Charles Patierno, and the strong, lyrical playing of MacConnell complete this inventive ensemble. It’s immediately evident that this skilled group of artists each bring their distinctive experience and approach to this blended collective.
The ever-expanding repertoire of The Jōst Project include rock/pop classics as, “Kashmir” (Led Zepellin); “Bridge Over Troubled Water” (Simon and Garfunkel); “Walk This Way” (Aerosmith); “Can’t Find My Way Home” (Blind Faith); “Maybe I’m Amazed” (Paul McCartney); “In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida” (Iron Butterfly), “Good Vibrations” (Beach Boys), as well as, “What a Day For a Day Dream” (John Sebastian- Loving Spoonful); “Sunshine Superman” (Donovan); “And I Love Her” and “Come Together” (The Beatles); “Tenessee Waltz” (Redd Stewart and Pee Wee King).  For good measure, jazz compositions like “Don’t Forget the Poet” (Encrico Pierannuzi); “Caravan” (Dizzy Gillespie); “Waltz New” (Jim Hall); and “Passion Dance” (McCoy Tyner) are also included in the group’s playlists.
