Patrick Topping’s productions have an effortless swagger when it comes to working the dancefloor and still only on his second EP, the North-East’s star in the making is showing plenty of nous with his massive debut for Hot Trax and now the intoxicating ‘Any Amounts EP’ on Hot creations. A-side ‘Any Amounts’ is getting hammered by Jamie Jones and crew, packed with stomping bass and ridiculously infectious top-lines, it’s a simple and dangerously effective weapon to destroy all dancefloors. ‘The Point’ moves into glitchier territory with another tough and raw bassline and old-school synths. On the flip, ‘Look Around’ weaves provocative vocal clips with heavy bass, a disembodied chorus and syncopated beats. Last but not least Patrick pairs another breathless vocal sample for ‘In My’ with a stripped back bumpin’ house groove, arpeggiated synths and subaqueous growl.

Patrick Topping delivered his first EP ‘Walk On’ on off-shoot Hot Trax earlier this year, which reached no.5 in the Beatport Deep House charts and was championed by Pete Tong on his legendary BBC radio 1 show.

With his tracks gaining support from heavyweights Franck Roger, Richy Ahmed and Darius Syrossian and Jamie Jones even before they were signed, it was only a matter of time before the budding artist broke into the limelight.

Now 24 years old Patrick, first built a DJ career around playing at his own popular club night in Newcastle, Motion while at Uni but started concentrating on production in 2011. Through the old-fashioned demos route, Patrick caught the attention of the Hot Creations camp as they recognised the talent and Patrick’s innate ability to craft a banging record.

Early June will see Roush welcome emerging Spanish talent Jairo Delli to the label to deliver his ‘Badman Posse’ EP, alongside remixes from Neverdogs and Luuk Van Dijk. A rising name within Europe, Tenerife born talent Jairo Delli is the latest Spanish producer to begin making considerable noise within the worlds of House and Tech House, with notable early support from artists including Pirupa, Javi Bora, and of course, Hector Couto. With previous releases on the likes of 303 Lovers alongside Luigi Rocca and CR2 Records, early June will welcome a debut on Roush to deliver three energy- driven original productions, whilst Music On residents Neverdogs and Amsterdam’s Luuk Van Dijk each provide remixes. Title track ‘Badman Posse’ establishes the direction of the EP from the off, as crisp snares and howling sirens combine with intermittent background vox snippets to reveal a dynamic and lively lead production, whilst ‘Champion Sound’ keeps the energy levels high, employing laser-sharp drums and resonant claps to great effect. ‘Bow Pow’ signals the last of the Spaniards originals, this time opting to shift the focus on driving low ends, whilst a dark, snaking bassline weaves its way amongst crisp hats. The second half of the EP welcomes the arrival of the two remixes, with Luuk Van Dijk quickly enforcing tough, metallic kicks and spiraling synths upon ‘Champion Sound’, whilst Neverdogs’ interpretation of ‘Badman Posse’ strips things back to reveal an assortment organic percussion patterns, rich tones and soulful female vocal hooks.

Daniel Dexter’s reputation as party starter extraordinaire keeps on growing – a result of his punishing touring schedule and consistently exceptional output of some of Europe’s top electronic labels. But it’s fair to say that Berlin based Dexter’s most rewarding and boundary-pushing work so far has been courtesy of Poker Flat Recordings – which makes this edition of the Hamburg imprint’s Focus On series very timely. 

Focus On Daniel Dexter joins the already illustrious company of previous releases that featured Argy and Guido Schneider, and is set to bring Dexter’s unique brand of dancefloor mayhem to yet more ears. Having spent 2012 touring the world and ripping up dancefloors in every way imaginable, this release brings into sharp focus the force of nature that is Daniel Dexter.  

The release draws together some key releases and distinct high points of his sound over the last few years, as well as giving us some very exciting glimpses of what’s in store in the future – scattered throughout this weighty release are numerous unreleased and exclusive cuts set to detonate dancefloors throughout 2013.  The exclusive tracks are available on the vinyl release, while digital customers can pick up all 13 unmixed tracks. What’s more, the album is also being released on CD as an exclusive mix made by Dexter himself, showcasing not only his expertly crafted tracks but his unique and highly sought after mixing skills – not to be missed! 

The journey starts with ‘The Other Day’ – Dexter’s emotional mood setter sounding as good as ever – a true slice of atmospheric dance music as you’ll hear. The album also makes sure to stop by some other Dexter-defining moments, including ‘No House for Old Men’ from 2011, and a trio of stunning releases on Poker Flat from 2012 – ‘Sirens’, ‘Storm’ and ‘Murder’.  Each was a master class in dynamics and production savvy, referencing classic sounds but never being overawed by them. Dexter’s astounding remix for Zombie Disco Squad’s ‘Righteous Sound’ on Made to Play is another case in point- tight, punchy, and filled with a menace and attitude that is all Dexter. 

Dexter’s skills for balancing the needs of dancefloors to the more cerebral needs of the home listeners is clear - and nowhere more so than on the new and exclusive tracks on this release. ‘Birds’ has a lightness of touch that makes it perfect for very early or very late in any set. ‘Night Away’ is more upfront but maintains a jazzy undertone and boasts a smouldering vocal from Geraldine Roth – and also comes with a handy dub version for the DJs. ‘Raw Land’ is a firing late night house monster, deep and trippy and sure to turn a few floors inside out when played at the right moment. 

‘Papillon’ builds dramatically, utilizes its few elements to create a wicked groove reminiscent of classic period Carl Craig, while ‘Why So Serious?’ adds another dimension of edginess to the proceedings. 
‘In To The Wild’ further references Dexter’s debt to Detroit, but transcends the sum of its parts to create a lush and emotive deep bomb.  Rounding off the album is Dexter’s upcoming remix of Gender Bombs ‘Danube’- a perfect way to close this epic journey- sitting somewhere between trip hop and deep house, this track showcases Dexter’s extraordinary diversity and sure touch for emotional dance music.
