The third part of the EXPEDIT:ION series is a journey through the golden age of liquid. 

So called 'Liquid Funk', a name taken from a Fabio mix CD of the same name, burst to the forefront of the D&B scene in the early 2000s. Positive, deep and soulful, It was a welcome change of pace from the dark sounds that had dominated drum and bass at the end of the millenium.

From 2000 to 2004 prolific producers such as Marcus Intalex & ST Files, Calibre and High Contrast honed their craft and made the emerging liquid sound a cornerstone of the D&B scene. 

Influential labels  Soul:r, Defunked, Hospital and Fabio's own Creative Source prospered. However, nothing last forever, and although liquid D&B remains a huge part of D&Bs identity, in my opinion it is no longer the soulful and creative force it once was.

For this mix I had at first tried to select a bunch of underappreciated personal favourites, but despite deliberately avoiding a tonne of anthems, it still turned into a M.I.S.T. / High Contrast love-in.

Around this time, 2000 - 2004, I was buying more records than ever, and playing on two different stations, as such all of these tracks saw a lot of rotation.

First up on remix duties we enlisted an artist we have long admired , Phil Maher. Here in his Me, Myself & I guise he drops the tempo and serves up an epic slice of 140 Bpm Junglism. Amen Chops sit alongside Live Styled Drums amongst evolving pads and lush vocals from the original outing.

Our man Lucas is up next to keep this release an all Birmingham affair and takes you on a little journey moving through its ambient surroundings it keeps building to it's hands in the air Piano moment with rolling old skool breaks and a warm reese bass pushing the track along through the emotional pads and yearning vocals.
