Special ED has been DJing Drum n’ Bass and Jungle since 1996, influenced heavily by the Ragga and Jump-Up styles of the time. Ed rapidly mastered the art of mixing records and was playing a crucial part in Victoria’s early Drum n’ Bass scene by 1997. By the end of the 90's, through his involvement with Whitebird Records and pure dedication to his music - he had amassed one of the largest collection of wax, as well as one of the longest résumé’s of any DJ in Victoria. Since 2000 Ed has resided (or played at least once) at every regular Drum n’ Bass function in Victoria and Vancouver, working with various production companies such as Whitebird Records, 420 Kru, Ground Level Productions, Royal Platoon, Automatic, SHAH DJ's and Digital Motion. Special ED has played alongside some of the VIP Drum n’ Bass - Jungle DJ's, producers and MC's to grace Victoria & Vancouver, such as Spectrasoul, Camo & Krooked, DJ SS, Remarc, Dieselboy, AK1200, General Malice. Nickey Blackmarket, Mikey Finn, Aphrodite, Artificial Intelligence, Slip & Slide, Marcus Visionary, Lush, John B, A Sides, Mathematics, Sigma, Ed Rush & Optical, Ray Keith, WODNB, Stunna, Eskman, L-Natural and Caddy Cad to mention a few. Now living in Vancouver Special ED has recently joined Elm Imprint & Digital, as well as writing for DNB Vault. Ed has also released “Mob Mentality”, "Lemon Haze" and "Street Value" a collaboration with Psidream on Nightfall Recordings.

Bitchin’ is Kenzie Clarke and Mama Miche: best friends since ‘04, licensed unicorn trainers, accomplished wearers of wild outfits, and the reigning Queens of Beats n’ Bass in North America. Since their fateful meeting at a Valentine’s Day party—Miche in a mullet and silk pajamas, Kenzie as the sorceress—the two have been relentless in their quest for global dance floor domination. The Bitchin’ strategy is simple: dropping an endless onslaught of fun and funky bass-bombs on party people’s heads.

Whenever a female DJ act comes up, people waste their time talking about them being girls and not boys. Bitchin’ proves that topic irrelevant. Bitchin’ is rugged beats and raw dog bass. That Kenzie and Miche happen to be women matters not. Not only can Bitchin’ hang. They can—and will—destroy. The Bitchin’ sound, developed over five years of playing together, is singular and eclectic, leaving no dance genres alone. House, techno, electro, disco, 80s funk, booty breaks, whatever. If it’s a bomb, it will be dropped.

Like any successful partnership, Bitchin’ works because each half brings their own toolkit to the table. Kenzie, who held down her two year weekly residency NYPD (Not Your Parents’ Disco) at Lucky Bar in Victoria, and now is a member of the Boom the Box resident team at The Common in Edmonton, is the music fiend. She has an encyclopedic knowledge of dance music and a keen ear for fresh sounds. For her part, Mama Miche has over ten years experience in promotions and artist and tour management—first with Mother’s Cupboard, now with Stirling Agency, repping acts like Smalltown DJs, Wax Romeo and Mat the Alien—has organized and managed tours for Top Billin’, Deekline, Nick Thayer, Jubilee, Cobra Krames and Sammy Bananas.  From her home base in Calgary, Miche brings business savvy and a deep understanding of what it takes to fill a room with enthusiastic party-goers. 

While they both had burgeoning DJ careers before they hooked up, the two-woman Bitchin’ formation has vaulted them to new heights. In spite of operating from different postal codes, the pair has landed gigs around the world, alongside major electronic acts like Classixx, LA Riots, Steve Aoki, Stanton Warriors, Krafty Kuts, Fort Knox 5, Malente, Bassnectar and Glitch Mob. Together Kenzie and Miche have filled dancefloors all over Canada, UK, Spain, Miami and Hawaii. They are also permanent fixtures on Canada’s lively outdoor rave scene, playing for huge crowds at premiere electronic music festivals like Soundwave and Shambhala.

Needless to say, they’re loving every minute of it. Miche sums it up, “I just want to —rock out and play great music with my best friend—really, could it get any better?"

Vespers is a beat-making robot sent back in time from the year 2502. He was banished from the future for repeat offenses of making excessively bass-heavy noises, leading to irreparable structural damage to the downtown core of Neo Tokyo. It is reported that his long-time sidekick and party companion “Go-Go”, a biogenetically enhanced feneks fox, also travelled back in time to join him in his exile.

Vespers is known for his extensive and unpredictable glitches, which cause him to randomly spout tibbits of music production wizardry and secret techniques to virtually anyone who will listen. Kind of like the robot equivalent of Turrets Syndrome. You can see hours of videos of him waxing poetic about all kinds of audio geekery on his Youtube channel. Legend has it that getting sent back in time was all part of his “master plan” to create a legion of bass worshipers who will take over the future.

Although he isn’t human, he does have an puzzling affinity for jazz music and a fascinating preoccupation with saxophones. You can frequently catch him wreaking bassy-havoc and inciting funk-infused dancefloor mayhem at all kinds of music festivals and West Coast gatherings.
