On EP 09 of the Here&There podcast, we're in conversation with JT Donaldson (New Math Records / Classic Music Company).

With an impressive discography spanning over twenty years, JT Donaldson has been creating deep, soulful house music for labels across the world such as Classic, Cajual, Fair Park, Cyclo, Distance and Season Recordings.

He has carved a distinct niche for himself in the world of underground house music and has a strong reputation as one of the worlds’ top house producers remixing for artists like Mark Farina, Chez Damier and Justin Martin. JT has collaborated with the likes of Spencer Kincy, Sandy Rivera, Isabelle Antena, LoSoul, DJ Heather, Ge-Ology, and Cpen to name a few.

Raised in Dallas, TX, he got his early influences from the many DJs that would fly down from Chicago to play Dallas underground parties. Like many of his contemporaries, he worked in record stores from the age of 16, and gained daily exposure and knowledge of dance music.

One of his first remix opportunities would come from Chicago, with an unlikely phone call from Chez Damier who asked him to remix his new single ‘Close’ based on a cassette demo he had submitted to Cajual at the age of 17. JT would eventually move to Chicago and find mentors in Chez, Derrick Carter and Spencer Kincy who all guided and influenced his music.  His DJ sets are rooted in Chicago house music, but he often travels fluently thru many styles including disco, afro-beat, techno, acid and jazz.

JT’s first release of 2019 comes from Classic Music Company with featured vocalist Liv.e, known for her unique blend of lo-fi, hip-hop and soul. With a vinyl distribution deal in place from Ron Trent’s ‘MusicAndPower’ parent company, expect many new projects this year from artists such as Ben Hixon, Penelope Antena and Damon Bell curated by JT for his label New Math Records.

During his teenage years, El Kazed stumbled upon the world of house music, delving into the collections of record shops in Sarrebrucken and grooving on the Belgian dancefloors. 

Then, He forged connections in Strasbourg with future label co-owners, Rony, Big Freak, and TheLau. After hosting numerous parties, they made the collective decision to launch Ordinaire Records, a label dedicated to their shared passion for deep house, aimed at promoting emerging producers. 

After releasing a few tunes on Ordinaire Records, El Kazed caught the attention of Chez Damier and released in 2023 "For A&S" on his newly established label, "House Of Chez." Keep an eye out for El Kazed's upcoming music releases; there's so much more to come!

Mark Kufner (Toronto Hustle x Selections Label Owner) has been a fixture in Toronto's underground house scene for the last three decades, and has released on some of the most respected labels in house music including Freerange Records, Local Talk, Distant music, Nick Holders DNH records and Ron Allen’s Strobe Records. His  combined knowledge and passion for straight up house music has seen him play at many of Toronto's premier venues and warehouse events and he has shared the stage with such iconic figures in dance music including Frankie Knuckles, David Morales, Honey Dijon, Jimpster, Mood II Swing, Dennis Ferrer, Kenny Dope, Detroit Swindle, Satoshi Tomiie, Ron Trent, The Martinez Brothers and Derrick Carter to name a few. Toronto hustle is known for playing an eclectic mixture of new, old and obscure records.

2019 saw Mark launch the Vinyl only label Selections, and 3 years later, the label has become synonymous with a quality over quantity approach. At 8 releases in the label has successfully bridged the gap between iconic figures in dance music and fresh, up and coming talents. The esteemed roster includes artists like Nick Holder, Kai Alcé, Demuir, Black Loops, Dan Only, Nico Lahs, Intr0beatz, 83 West and many many more! Based on the success of Selections, Demuir reached out and hired Mark as the Label manager for the Vinyl only division of Purveyor Underground, forming Purveyor Underground Limited! Releases by the Likes of Rick Wade, Byron The Aquarius and more to come!
