With a good few releases under his belt on labels such as Gene On Earth’s The Sound Of Limo, Gestalt Records, The Sound Of Steam or Craigie Knowes Bristol-based artist Boulderhead has built quite a formidable discography since 2020 and if pressing plants weren’t as busy as they are, the Welsh would have even more music of himself out there. Aside from releasing own music Henry James, Boulderhead’s real name, runs his own label Mint Tea, on which he’s been putting out VAs only so far, also including music from himself under his real name. However, since the label is a passion project according to Henry it does not follow a regular releasing schedule but now seems to be back with an EP and maybe more. In an interview with Torture the Artist Boulderhead speaks about the success of his latest release, the future of the label, how he likes his tea served and more. Additionally he’s mixed and compiled the latest edition of the art:cast series and it’s a deep-treat.

With releases on Endless, DOBRO, Esuoh, Sengiley, GLBDOM or Lisztomania the French by heart has built up an impressive reputation within the scene as well as an equally formidable release catalogue over the past three years. Having way more music in the pipe or hard disk Dj Merci will surely accompany dancefloors and (dance) maniacs over the next years, decades sharing his (piano) inspired and driven sound with those, who enjoy the more classic approach to the genre and appreciate the intimate moments his music creates. With a residency at renowned PAL Club he’s accomplished before-mentioned partly already. Enzio Etchaberri is a Dutch-born Berlin-based DJ and producer. It is 
the love for arpeggiated, high energy, and cosmic sounds that sees him defy genre boundaries and temporarily reduce gravity’s pull-on people’s legs. His experience with playing warm-up, peak time, and closing sets has given him the chance to develop his ethos, ‘If you have people on their toes, it’s easier for them to dance too’.
A lot of energy is committed in creating a joyful experience, be it 
digitizing rare vinyl, meticulously editing and remixing tracks for DJ use or producing original material. In the production department, he focuses on continuously developing his diverse musical identity and is taking the time to patiently release his tried-and-tested creations into the world.
Besides that, he has gained dance-floor experience in various settings. Playing club venues such as Sisyphos, Renate, Ballroom Blitz, Beirut & The Brooklyn Monarch and festivals such as Melt, Garbicz and Undercity, Warsaw.

@djbeyun is a DJ and producer based in Atlanta. She was a founder and resident at Boston's monthly party Vault, bringing a consistent space for deeper, darker dance music to the city. From there, she moved to Atlanta to manage operations and direct A&R for DJ Pierre's Afro Acid label. With DJ sets that feel gritty, soulful, and timeless, she's plotted recent and upcoming dates in New York, Amsterdam, and Berlin.

"I make two kinds of mixes in the studio: the fun, feel-good, soulful, jacking kind and the therapy session. Sometimes the two collide, but it depends on how eager the subconscious is to take over and work out any unresolved issues. If there are unpleasant emotions or thoughts crowding my headspace, I confront them through the music I play.

Think of a particularly bad knot in your shoulder: to find relief, you jam your finger into it and increase the pressure to the point the pain subsides and there is a release. A mix is a psychedelic massage. Apply pressure—abrasive sounds, fast, gritty percussion, dissonance—and release—soulful n deep cuts, vocals—then repeat and increase the intensity of the cycle each time.

Through this process a narrative (or several) generally forms. While I’m not fully aware of what this narrative is while making the mix, as the listener afterward I always hear a message. Sometimes it’s not one I can put into words. I do approach mixes with the intention of uplifting and empowering the listener/dancer at the end, regardless of how difficult the journey is to get there.

I recorded this with Pioneer CDJs (2000 NXS) and an Allen & Heath Xone:92 mixer. I recently switched my at-home mixer to the Xone because I always dread playing on it at gigs. I’m used to the three band EQ mixers, so having four is challenging to get the levels perfect since I never have much time to practice on it—the EQ is also way more responsive. If something challenges me, I prefer to confront it and embrace it rather than run away from it—that’s the only way growth can happen. Since my other mixer was on the outs, I decided to get this beast.

My dream is to have a custom built rotary mixer with an isolator built in, but that has to come later. I love my standalone Bozure isolator, but due to the audio routing it’s still a bit awkward to use it with the Xone, unfortunately. Twisting the EQ knobs quickly for effect just doesn’t feel the same, but with practice I’ll eventually find a method with the external effects."

Torture the Artist is a webzine, or a magazine made for the internet, geared towards those with a passion for contemporary electronic music, with subgenres including Techno, Tech House, Deep House and Eletronica, as well as a small amount of Indie and Alternative. Founded in 2014 by Holger Breuer, a German native and lover of the arts, Torture the Artist now consists of five team members from all around the world.

In addition to publishing interviews, music reviews, DJ charts and track premieres, the webzine hosts out a  podcast series called 'art:casts'. This medium gives DJs and producers the artistic freedom to highlight their different musical styles while not being restricted by factors such as setting, and connecting them to a wider audience. 

Being in its ninth year, Torture the Artist has gained a strong and active online support group, including music enthusiasts to label managers and artists themselves, creating a cohesive community with music as their bond.
