NYC-based producer, DJ and label-head Farren Laen delivers the next installment of the art:cast series or a conglomeration of (own) productions paired with pieces that complement and enhance the set's tone and vibe. Hitting the dark dance spot the New Yorker builds up his set like typical old red brick buildings in the city: stone after stone resulting in a memory lane of the future. Just like in his own music Farren Laen comes up with a vibe that is short of becoming possessive luring one into its atmospheric vortex as the space-out sequences almost have a meditative touch, while latter is left behind shortly before dancers/ listeners drift away in their very own thought bubbles and Farren presses the "House kick-drum" to continue his cat-and-mouse game, a game he seemingly not only plays well but has perfected. Otherwise it's hard to explain how someone can come up with such a beauty of sound-waves within only 67 minutes.

For our 51st podcast, we have invited young, taste-making Brussels DJ https://soundcloud.com/seja-aka-vera to give us a taste of her impressive skill as a selector. In the last few years, this former EKKO resident has been making waves in both the local Utrecht scene and in Belgium, including a crushing turn at our label takeover at WAS. this year. Seja has grown into a true New Beat, EBM and Acid House specialist, kicking ass and taking names all over town. 

This month is a big one for Seja, as she sets out to play not only Utrecht’s much-hyped Freaky Dancing event, but she’s gracing us with an appearance at our ADE label drinks as well. Plenty of reasons to get her on board for this month’s podcast. And Seja does not disappoint: This mix is bang on, it’s moody, it’s groovy, it’s a quintessential Seja set, and it’s exactly what we need right now.

Canadian DJ and soon to be producer Donotstealmyname delivered an energetic and powerful set at this summer’s Picnic Electronik Montreal that was foremost the result of growing into the electronic music scene and breathing it for more than five years. As part of the Montreal scene, a city where, according to the artist, Techno is still dominant, Sabrina Richer, Donotstealmyname’s real name, not necessarily represents a counterpart but rather rides her Nu Tech-House-wave with  references to House music as well as 90s infused tracks with a slight touch of trancey and ravey elements. It’s hardly surprising that she names a House-vet and two more tech-oriented artists as her (musical) inspiration or artists she’d like to share the decks with. Furthermore, Sabrina shares insights into the local scene, rolls out the red carpet for some of the crews and clubs in the city, takes us on a journey into her past and what she’s nostalgic about and also how she became involved with electronic music. Additionally Donotstealmyname mixed and compiled the latest edition of our art:cast-series.

Irishman in Glasgow Peter Lawlor, better known under his artist name Polytunnel, just had his trend-setting single Outer Earth out on Made Magnetic, which came with remixes from artists like Denham Audio, Lighght and Jellypelt, and is not only a musical follow-up of previous releases but foremost the consolidation of the artist's status of "one to watch in the present and future." A status that was caused by previous releases on Seven Sign Recordings and Childsplay in 2022 respectively in 2019. Now Peter delivers the latest episode of the art:cast series and, of course, does not disappoint as he created a conglomerate of tracks that smoothly intertwine and keep the tension growing.

I took some LPs we actually listen to a lot (Joy Orbison, Erykah Badu, FKA Twigs, Jack J, Isa Gordon, Andras) and added a few current 12 inches. A mix of Indie Pop, R&B, smooth analogue House, leftfield Electronica and discoish stuff is what you get.

AD The DJ - What are you listening to?

It has not been that long ago that Eileen started her career. But since the beginning, she has been considered one of the most promising talents in Frankfurt. With gigs at some of the coolest spots in town, such as Shuka Bar, Ima Rooftop, AMP, Silbergold, and Listener, her sonority develops itself through a broad amount of House Music encompassing as many sub-genres as possible and is mainly influenced by the likes of Francesco Del Garda, DMX Krew, and Le Loup, just to name a few. 

Despite being relatively new in the scene, she has already started throwing her own club night: Amore Collab has the goal of trying to bring a bit of musical variation to Frankfurt. 

"My motivation is to build a space for everyone who just wants to have a great time, fun, and dance. Always looking forward to playing the next time and curious about what will happen in the future", she said.

Torture the Artist - your source for contemporary electronic music

Torture the Artist is a webzine, or a magazine made for the internet, geared towards those with a passion for contemporary electronic music, with subgenres including Techno, Tech House, Deep House and Eletronica, as well as a small amount of Indie and Alternative. Founded in 2014 by Holger Breuer, a German native and lover of the arts, Torture the Artist now consists of five team members from all around the world.

In addition to publishing interviews, music reviews, DJ charts and track premieres, the webzine hosts out a  podcast series called 'art:casts'. This medium gives DJs and producers the artistic freedom to highlight their different musical styles while not being restricted by factors such as setting, and connecting them to a wider audience. 

Being in its ninth year, Torture the Artist has gained a strong and active online support group, including music enthusiasts to label managers and artists themselves, creating a cohesive community with music as their bond.
