‘Dancing People Volume 5’ drops in July of this year, and as you would expect, here is  another release that digs deep into archives. London based artist XOA continues the edits series with 2 dance floor focussed belters in the form of ‘Sekele’ on the A-Side and ‘Nimele’ on the B- Side. The label has also teamed up with the legends over at Handy Supply Co to create a limited run of T-Shirts and socks in blue/pink pastel colours to compliment the physical release. ‘Nieme’ is high energy rework of the classic Afro-Disco track ‘Nieme Bolo’ by Charly Kingson from back in 1978. The original vocal takes a backseat in this edit, with XOA carefully sampling the vocal to emphasise selected elements that form new hooks instantly grab the listeners attention and holding it throughout . The unmistakable, emphatic brass stabs from the original are a key element in this edit, as is that classic 70’s funky bassline that could only have been born out of one of the analog Synthesizers of the era. This edit takes the original from the archives and puts it back on the dancefloor where it well and truly belongs!

Dust off a wine glass or three; today we raise a toast to one of the most dedicated house music institutions — Smallville Records. Ten years is a ruddy good time in this part of town, and establishing such a loveable brand takes some doing. Yet, with misty-eyed house at its core, the record store-cum-label has confidently strutted towards the big ten. To celebrate, the Hamburg fam are dispensing the third and fourth part of the Ways Series — entitled Smallville Ways — with a two four-track 12" and an 11-track CD. 

Naturally, the roll-call reels off like a FIFA dream team equivalent: STL, Christopher Rau, Moomin, L'Amour Fou (Move D with Benoit Bouquin (BB) and Marco Wollenberg), Smallpeople, Juniper, Jacques Bon, Lawrence, Rvds & Rau, and Tilman Tausendfreund.

Kornél Kovács' offering carves the deepest incision though. Remodelling a D'Angelo Rhodes piano sample into a diet version of itself, "Space Jam" is as airy and uncluttered as we've come to expect. Here's to another decade then, ayy.

Interconnected and brought together by the city of Tokyo, their passion for electronic music and uncontested talent in their crafts, Alex Prat, Isao Kumano, and Kenichi Takagi together form Tokyo Black Star, a synergy of musical dynamism that have since its inception, set to break barriers and stand the test of time. Torture the Artist is a webzine, or a magazine made for the internet, geared towards those with a passion for contemporary electronic music, with subgenres including Techno, Tech House, Deep House and Eletronica, as well as a small amount of Indie and Alternative. Founded in 2014 by Holger Breuer, a German native and lover of the arts, Torture the Artist now consists of five team members from all around the world.

In addition to publishing interviews, music reviews, DJ charts and track premieres, the webzine hosts out a  podcast series called 'art:casts'. This medium gives DJs and producers the artistic freedom to highlight their different musical styles while not being restricted by factors such as setting, and connecting them to a wider audience. 

Being in its ninth year, Torture the Artist has gained a strong and active online support group, including music enthusiasts to label managers and artists themselves, creating a cohesive community with music as their bond.
