Chart-topping LA duo Haddadi Von Engst return with another hellfire release that includes another A-lister on the remix. ‘Til The End’ is the most epic and memorable melodic techno EP from HVE to date. For this masterpiece, the classically trained production-wizards set a melancholic atmosphere with gorgeous arp work and dramatic loose keys. Dreamy vocals from San Francisco group Phonic Youth perfectly match the mood. The track gains momentum through uplifting melodies and drops that contrast the wistful lyrics to provide a strong sense of perseverance “-‘til the end”.

For the remix, iconic dance music duo Super Flu do the impossible and rework this production into something equally special. Their more playful, twisted, drum-driven version, which sits effortlessly between afro house, latin rhythm, and melodic techno, is ready to tickle and tease the dancefloor into evolving madness. It is so brilliantly distinct yet complementary to HVE's original mix that the two tracks could be used within the same set and each will provide a unique vibe to the room.

VII Circle is a four-handed project by Andrea Vallisneri and Andrea Casari. The producer duo’s background roots from rock and indie genres, but most of all from the will to experiment. Two visions, two very different approaches to music. They clash together and merge to create an unique form of music production with dark and hypnotic tones.

Wastelands and dark corners are created, staging the perfect scenario for electric sounds without mediation. In January 2016, the international debut with Titan ep for the english label Stem Records.

The next year, in a ongoing process of artistic growth, born from a partnership between VII Circle and Memorial Home duo, a new record label Rapid Eye Movement, is founded.

In October 2017 Archetype Ep (REM001) is released by Rapid Eye Movement. This EP sees the contribution of Keith Carnal (ARTS, Affin, Afterlife) and Farrago (ARTS).

The Forgotten CXXVII: VII Circle

As Turbo celebrates its 20th anniversary, we feel conflicted over making a big deal out of it. On the one hand, 20 years of sustained excellence makes you an institution. On the other, it seems beneath an institution to throw itself a big birthday party at the local laser tag arena. This is the kind of dilemma we’ve been grappling with for two decades now. 

Originally released in 2002, “Sunglasses at Night” is the song that launched label boss Tiga to singing-DJ superstardom. The electro update of Corey Hart’s switchblade owner’s anthem was nothing short of a phenomenon, thanks in large part to the production wizardry of Zyntherius, aka Jori Hulkkonen, a strong contender for lifetime Turbo MVP. 

So as we look back while looking forward while remaining completely in the present moment, we’ve entrusted a huge part of our history to some of today’s hugest artists. But nothing could be huger than the gratitude we feel toward our longtime fans, those who have been with us since the beginning and who probably know that “Sunglasses at Night” wasn’t even released on Turbo. This is for you.

What is Techno Seleba? Is it a pseudonym for one of today’s hottest dance music stars? Is it a pseudonym for all of today’s hottest dance music stars, dancing arm in arm around one giant mixing board? The truth is in there somewhere, Sherlock.

Exclusive Innellea 'Quito'

Based in southern Germany, DJ and producer duo Innellea have left their sound-mark in the electronic music since their first release, 'Colante', in 2016. In less than two years Innellea or Daniel and Michael, how close friends call them, have become an in-demand-act and an Adana Twins favorite. The honor of being favorited by the Hamburgers now results in releasing the very first EP, 'Nautilus', on their newly founded label TAU. 'Quito', referring to Ecuador's capital, is the most percussive cut from the EP and represents a musical counterpart to 'Nautilus'. The lush bassline sets the groove and is gradually enriched with further percussive elements as well as incisive synth-chords before peaking in a tropical-break(down)that pours a heavy musical rainfall down on the listener. But 'Quito' does not leave you in the rain but keeps pushing forward as further twirling and curling soundscapes are added within the course of the track and make you cherish the romance of a warm summer rain.

Innellea's EP 'Nautilus' will be released August 31st, 2018 on TAU.

German music maestro Florian Kruse is next up on Sasha's imprint Last Night On Earth with an incredible package featuring two original tracks and an unbelievably good rework from Julian Wassermann.

'The Tide Is Turning' is a solid atmospheric techno builder, with a beautifully deep rolling groove. Soft modulated arp lines pan the stereo field, growing in velocity and resonance, around minimal percussion and a round full bass line.

Florian makes wonderful use of progressive percussive movements in the track 'Zog', flowing through different hi hats and syncopated hits, adding pace and varied textures. Drone pads float in and out of the track as it peaks and drops alongside a chunky stabbed topline, creating a brilliantly dynamic sound.

'Zog' then gets a hefty remix from Julian Wassermann who injects a wickedly dominant beat, tonnes of creative synth work and glitchy textures. Solid work.

Torture the Artist is a webzine, or a magazine made for the internet, geared towards those with a passion for contemporary electronic music, with subgenres including Techno, Tech House, Deep House and Eletronica, as well as a small amount of Indie and Alternative. Founded in 2014 by Holger Breuer, a German native and lover of the arts, Torture the Artist now consists of five team members from all around the world.

In addition to publishing interviews, music reviews, DJ charts and track premieres, the webzine hosts out a  podcast series called 'art:casts'. This medium gives DJs and producers the artistic freedom to highlight their different musical styles while not being restricted by factors such as setting, and connecting them to a wider audience. 

Being in its ninth year, Torture the Artist has gained a strong and active online support group, including music enthusiasts to label managers and artists themselves, creating a cohesive community with music as their bond.
