Following Tom Jarmey and Aiden Francis on Houseum sublabel Ellipse Records, French artist 440 Hz steps up next with his ‘Deep Sea Driving’ EP. It’s a psychedelic six-tracker, mellow through subaquatic melodies, though also built for the club with powerful bass, punchy, stripped-back percussion and breakbeat, UKG and acid influences. ‘Mindscape’ kicks the proceedings off with swirling pads, organ keys and crisp grooves before ‘Gazoline’ joins in with its dubbed-out synth hits and elastic womp-like bass.

The gorgeous ‘Soul Mirror’ then enters with 2-step drums, trippy harmonies and echoing vocals, while the title track ‘Deep Sea Driving’ features resonant bubbling synths, minimal four-to-the-floor rhythm and more hypnotic layers of underwater melody. Closing out the release, the dancefloor-oriented ‘Chez Jola’ chugs along with alien sounds, reaching for the stars with rolling percussion and gated effects, with peak-time bouncer ‘SF/S’ finishing via acidic basslines and subtle rave elements.

Argentinian label collective Nila's Quest readies its third outing, which is as varied and fresh as the predecessors, namely the debut EP by TOBI and the VA follow up Argentinian Breakfast Vol. 1. The newest contribution to the label comes from the IT Guys, who deliver a four tracker, whose sound aesthetic can be classified as a conglomerate of different influences from House music's golden era in the 90s, namely Italo and Progressive. The EP starts with the title track Double Trouble, which seemingly combines the before-mentioned House music with an Italo note. Still the implementation of a rather proggy sub-frequencies turn Double Trouble to a smooth merger of various genres without sounding too intentionally or forced. In fact Double Trouble is an uplifting dance floor take, which overcomes the boundaries of genres as easily as it bogarts the crowd in the club.

Torture the Artist is a webzine, or a magazine made for the internet, geared towards those with a passion for contemporary electronic music, with subgenres including Techno, Tech House, Deep House and Eletronica, as well as a small amount of Indie and Alternative. Founded in 2014 by Holger Breuer, a German native and lover of the arts, Torture the Artist now consists of five team members from all around the world.

In addition to publishing interviews, music reviews, DJ charts and track premieres, the webzine hosts out a  podcast series called 'art:casts'. This medium gives DJs and producers the artistic freedom to highlight their different musical styles while not being restricted by factors such as setting, and connecting them to a wider audience.
