Tout comme le mot "techno" il y a quelques années, le terme "electro" désigne aujourd’hui pour la plupart des gens l'ensemble des musiques électroniques. Un diminutif, un terme générique, un mot fourre-tout qui regroupe pour les profanes aussi bien l’eurodance que l’acid house. Mais c’est avant tout un genre, au meme titre que la techno, l’ambient et le kuduro ; un genre dont les racines remontent au début des années 80 et dont les principaux représentants sont bien connus des amateurs de salles sombres emplies d’ondes sonores : Model 500, Dopplereffekt, Drexciya, Kraftwerk, Aux 88 pour ne citer que les plus médiatisés.
