Biographie : 

A l'origine de Nhoj, il y a ce duo composé de Jérémy à la basse et d'Olivier à la batterie. Durant plusieurs années, ils ont formé ensemble les sections rythmiques de divers groupes aux esthétiques multiples (Jazz, Rock, Reggae...). C'est cette expérience commune qui alimentera plus tard leur démarche de création.
En 2016, le goût de la recherche sonore pousse Olivier à faire l'acquisition de son premier handpan. L'arrivée de ce nouvel instrument, aux possibilités à la fois rythmiques et mélodiques, marque un tournant pour le duo qui s'affirme en tant que tel.
De la section rythmique subsiste un groove pertinent appuyé par des percussions. S'y ajoute la finesse des mélodies portées tantôt par la basse, tantôt par le handpan. Les deux instrumentistes échangent les rôles, mélangent les styles (de la musique afro à celle des Balkans en passant par la Jungle ou la musique latine) et font dialoguer musique écrite et improvisée.
Depuis 2017, Nhoj présente son univers dans tous types de lieux : salles de concerts, festivals, bars, scènes amplifiées et acoustiques. C'est à chaque fois l'occasion d'inviter l'auditoire à un voyage sonore inattendu.

Biography :

At the origin of Nhoj, there is this duet compunded of Jérémy on bass and Olivier on drums. For several years, they formed together the rhythm sections of various groups at multiple aesthetics (Jazz, Rock, Reggae ...). It is this common experience which will feed later their creative process.
In 2016, the passion for sound research urges Olivier to acquire his first handpan. The arrival of this new instrument, with both rhythmic and melodic possibilities, marks a turning point for the duet which asserts itself as such.
The rhythm section remains there is a relevant groove supported by percussion instruments. Added to this is the delicacy of the melodies worn sometimes by the bass, sometimes by the handpan. Both instrumentalists exchanging roles, mixing styles (from Afro to Balkan music via Jungle or Latin music) and dialogue between written and improvised music.
Since 2017, Nhoj presents its universe in every types of places : concert halls, festivals, bars, amplified and acoustic scenes. Each time it is an opportunity to invite the audience to an unexpected sound journey.
