Die gebürtigen Essener Moe und Felix sind besser als Moe & Melmixx bekannt und haben schon auf Labels wie Music4Aliens und Subios Records released. Für uns haben sie einen richtig treibenden und düsteren Podcast zusammengestellt, der mit einigen Eigenproduktionen daherkommt.

1. Welche Musikrichtung hatte den größten Einfluss auf euch? 

Im Endeffekt hat uns glaube ich alles mehr oder weniger beeinflusst, was wir während unseres Lebens so gehört haben. Was unseren Sound bzw. Geschmack bei Techno angeht, haben uns die hiesigen Partys und einige Locals ziemlich stark geprägt. Zum Beispiel Breger und die bEATPLANTATiOn-Partyreihe, welche lange Zeit im Druckluft in Oberhausen stattfand oder die Jungs von der Subios-Records-Crew.

2. Wie seid ihr zur elektronischen Musik gekommen? 

Das war so ungefähr 2011/2012. Da begannen wir, regelmäßiger auf Technopartys zu gehen. Irgendwie kam das damals in unserem Freundeskreis so langsam auf – und dann waren wir auch sehr schnell mehr als angefixt. 

3. Und wie seid ihr dann zum Auflegen und Produzieren gekommen? 

Als erster von uns beiden hat Felix mit dem Auflegen begonnen, so 2012. Wenig später hat dann Moe ebenfalls angefangen, aufzulegen. Irgendwann haben wir uns dann nach längerer Zeit mal wieder getroffen und zum ersten Mal gemeinsam aufgelegt. Wenig später dann auch das erste Mal gemeinsam vor Publikum. Zusammen hat das richtig Spaß gemacht und lief einfach perfekt – wir haben uns von Anfang an super ergänzt. Ab da waren wir dann Moe & Melmixx. Mit dem Produzieren hat Moe ungefähr 2015 angefangen und Felix ist so seit 2019 dabei.

4. Wie würdet ihr euren Sound beschreiben? 

Auf unserer SoundCloud-Page bezeichnen wir das einfach als Psychedelic Minimal & Techno Stuff. Das trifft es eigentlich schon ganz gut. In Genres gedacht, würden wir es wohl eine Mischung aus Dark Minimal, Techno und Psytech nennen. Immer düster, minimalistisch, treibend und trippy.

5. Und wie seid ihr eigentlich zu eurem Namen gekommen? 

Moe ist einfach Moes Spitzname, abgeleitet von seinem richtigen Namen Moritz. Und Jerry Melmixx ist einer von Felix‘ Spitznamen und irgendwann vor etlichen Jahren mal aus einem Joke entstanden. Zufällig beginnen ja beide auch noch mit „M“ und Alliterationen klingen ja immer ganz nett.

6. Gehört ihr einem Partykollektiv an? 

Ja, dem MIKROKOSMOS Kollektiv, ehemals Kollektiv Stumpf. Bis wegen Corona alles zum Stillstand kam, haben wir mit unserer Crew die MIKROKOSMOS Party im Druckluft Oberhausen veranstaltet und hoffen natürlich, damit weitermachen zu können, sobald die Lage es wieder guten Gewissens und ohne Risiko für alle Beteiligen zulässt.

Podcast #89: Moe & Melmixx (MIKROKOSMOS | Subios Rec. | Music4Aliens)

The next installment of the Senso Sounds Level series sees us hit edition 9 - with another exciting
crop of artists to watch. 80 releases in and Senso continues to keep the quality at an almost
unthinkable level - and here is yet more evidence. Level 9 is four cuts from four artists - starting
off with Weltenstein, a DJ live act, classical concert pianist and producer based in Cologne.
He brings us 'Chiapas' - a tough-as-nails techno roller with crisp percussion and an aggressive
temperament. The Kech is a musician and DJ from Ivano-Frankivsk, Ukraine. His 'Strong Liquid'
track is a hypnotic, grooving tech cut that pulls you into its spell. The Russian artist Lie2you has
been receiving a lot of support from techno royalty like Dubfire and Richie Hawtin, and here with
'Find The Way' we are blessed with an exceptional piece of highly dynamic techno, built for big
systems and primed to hit hard. Last up is Roman Adam’s trippy, spacy techno journey to outer
space 'Dark Side of the Moon'. Inspired by the Senso back catalogue, Adam’s track is the sound
of him musing on the unknown, and imagining an exciting journey of discovery - a perfect fit for
the label.

The first Barcelona Megamix came together almost by chance - a happy accident. It all started with an invitation to collaborate with a label from northern Europe and showcase talent from my hometown, Barcelona. What happened next exceeded all expectations.
