Named as a literal translation of drummer/composer Memo's late father's favorite insult, this song was originally written as a solo piece, and then developed by the other members of <ttt> (Travis, Danny, and Hank). The first recording attempt was given a thorough remix treatment by Czet Lsyter, whose arranging contributions are deeply appreciated by the band.
The final version we have here is the one that sounds the way we sound live, and is available on the vinyl 10" self-release "Ample Fire" .

toyboat toyboat toyboat began when Travis Henderson (The Golden Greats, Digital Knife) responded to Mehmet Vurkaç's call to make weird music inspired by John Zorn. The pop sensibility was added by Hank Failing (Failing Records, Old Town Music) on guitar and bass, and Danny Norton (Eye Candy VJs, Extra Medium Sketch Comedy) on Drum Buddy and keyboards.

The group combines traditional rock 'n roll guitar and drums with uncommon instrumentation, including the Drum Buddy (a rare light-controlled instrument invented by New Orleans musician Quintron) and trumpet, played both acoustically and through electronic effects. They evade meandering noise jams in favor of engaging avant-pop.

Mehmet (a percussionist from Turkey with a doctorate in computational ethnomusicology) has an extensive history of playing samba, folkloric taiko, Afro-Cuban, rock, jazz and metal. He has played on stage various times with internationally renowned Pink Martini, as well as one-offs with Fishbone, Obo Addy, and Brazil's Olodum, and appears on Mirah's 2009 record (a)spera (K Records) with members of The Decemberists and The Haggard.

Hank Failing pioneered a music-referral service in the form of yearly 2-disc samplers which sold in record and instrument shops for $7 a piece. Based almost solely on submissions from local artists, each volume became both collector's item and time capsule. He continues to be an important resource to Portland musicians, buying, selling and servicing instruments at historic Old Town Music.

Travis Henderson hails from Lewiston, Idaho and has lent his horn and vocal chops to Digital Knife, Bohemian Onslaught and The Golden Greats before responding to Mehmet's online ad beckoning John Zorn fans to make weird music. He loves scuba diving and tortoises, and almost singularly made jumpsuits en vogue for live performers in Portland.

Danny Norton operates the rare photoreactive synthesizer The Drum Buddy, invented and hand-built by New Orleans organist Mr. Quintron, and has developed several unique techniques to turn the instrument's squeaks and rumbles into song. The real innovations of The Drum Buddy which he exploits are its user interface, which requires that one manipulate a spinning can with a glowing light bulb inside, past electronic (optical) sensors. When operated adeptly, it can resemble scratch-DJing, and sound a bit like anything from a Klezmer clarinet to a booty-bass Moog line.

ttt’s music has been likened by audiences to “Sun Ra meets Devo”, “Miles meets Fugazi”, “Zappa meets Beastie Boys” and “Afrobeat meets the Melvins” and "Happy Hardcore and Soca."

The music is simultaneously heavy, danceable, and provocatively odd. The group combines the conventional rock 'n roll sound with uncommon instrumentation, including electric trumpet and the Drum Buddy (a rare light-controlled analog synth/turntable/Theremin/drum machine invented by New Orleans musician Quintron). Their sound evades meandering jams in favor of engaging avant-pop.
