Terranova: Music to... Mine Coal To

The second instalment of brand new WWD mix series 5 for 15 is here! Following on from a stellar Di Chiara Brothers performance last week, we take things deeper with one of Italy's most impressive producers in 2014. He's a man who's tracks have garnered attention from every corner of the globe in the last twelve months, winning the plaudits and welcome of renowned imprints such as Parquet, Ajunadeep and Steyoyoke. He is of course Whomi! 2014 has been a massive year for the producer, who's deep, enchanting tunes have found their way into the sets of some major players, which include the likes of Mano Le Tough, Hunter/Game & John Digweed. With a big 2015 clearly on the cards, we were emplored to have him join us in the hotseat for tasty mix and a little Q&A action!

Solvane's activities are moved by passion. Making his style versatile and emotional, which allowed him to play the big stages around the globe; from Burning Man Festival to Fusion, from European capitals like London, Paris and Ibiza to Australia, Asia and the USA.
Since his teenage years, Solvane was playing on stage and discovered his enthusiasm for electronic music in his early twenties. The different styles in music throughout his life inspired him to experiment new things in his music style.
Since 10 years Solvane is producing his tracks in Berlin, his chosen home. His songs are supported by acts such as Claptone, Kollektiv Turmstraße as well as Digitalism. In 2016 he made it into the Electronica Charts by Beatport with his latest release “Ophelias’s Organ”, which is co-produced by Prismode und released by Ritter Butzke Studio.

1996 – The exchange of tapes in the beginning, illegal recordings at party nights in some of Zurich’s legendary clubs. This new multifaceted kind of music immediately fascinated Manuel Moreno. The Term ‘scene’ gained an all new meaning: People united by their enthusiasm for music.

“Boisterously dancing people, booming basses, propelled by driving rhythm, seemingly endless but nevertheless finitely party nights, high spirits, people visiting the nightly-urban moods just due to the music and frisky celebrating the ‘Here and now’. Even 17 years later these and many other aspects are still intriguing me before and whilst acting a gig. All the more I rejoice my releases on 8Bit, Katchuli, Hive Audio, Welldone!Music and Yippiee. These labels work I hold in high esteem.”

2013 – With his current publications the high flying and ambitious producer and DJ causes a sensation beyond the country’s boundaries. Thanks to his sensitivity on creation of danceable beats, combined with deep melodies of the sphere, he persuades the audience and hits the mark of the time. An dieser Stelle präsentieren wir euch den 2. Teil der Episodengeschichte von Simon Rucker. Musikalisch unterlegt wird "die Ankunft" von Case, der die Ruhe und Einsamkeit der Insel, welche dem Protagonisten zunächst zu schaffen macht, wunderbar in seinem Set einfängt.

An der Stelle, an der ich damals zu mir gekommen bin, habe ich vor ein paar Tagen ein Mahnmal errichtet. Es war mir ein Bedürfnis geworden, so habe ich der Insel doch einiges zu verdanken. Und ihr wisst es noch nicht, aber ihr habt der Insel auch einiges zu verdanken. Und vor allem lag mir daran, diesen Ort hier nicht ohne Warnung zu verlassen. Jetzt, als ich das Schiff sehe, bin ich froh, dass ich mit der Konstruktion nicht noch länger gewartet habe. Die Maske, die ich dem Pfahl grob geschnitzt habe, grinst leer über die Bucht. Von dort unten sieht sie, so denke ich, wie ein belangloser toter Palmenstumpf aus. Nur dem Näherkommenden wirft sie ihren unbarmherzigen Blick zu. Es war mir ein tiefes Bedürfnis geworden, der Welt zu zeigen, was hier auf der Insel vor sich geht. Sie vor ihr zu warnen. Euch vor ihr zu warnen. Eine Warnung, deren Sinn ich heute noch nicht ganz verstehe, aber deren Notwendigkeit ich nicht mehr bezweifle. Und im selben Moment möchte ich meinen Dank aussprechen, dass ich derjenige bin, der die Verantwortung tragen darf, die beste aller Taten zu vollbringen. Mich in den Dienst meiner Art zu stellen und die Botschaft in die Welt zu tragen, auch wenn es mich grämt, noch nicht genau zu verstehen, worin sie liegt. Doch ich will von vorn beginnen. 
Als ich meine von Sand und Salz verkrusteten Augen öffnete, wurde mir übel. Für einige Minuten drehte sich der kristallblaue Himmel über mir, bebte der Sand unter den Muskeln meines Rückgrats. Dann beruhigten sich meine Innereien allmählich. Es wurde mir langsam klar: Heute war ich noch nicht ertrunken. Ein dämliches Grinsen packte meine Kiefer.
Die nächsten Tage verbrachte ich damit, herauszufinden, dass ich mich auf einer Insel befand. Alleine mitten im südlichen Atlantik. Hinter dem Strand begann ein dichter Palmenwald, einmal um die Insel herum waren etwa vierzehn Kilometer. Zwei felsige Gipfel stiegen aus dem mit Bäumen bewachsenen Grund empor. Der eine davon etwas höher, ungefähr 350 Meter hoch, würde ich schätzen. Eine wissenschaftliche Peilung habe ich nicht unternommen. Huaaah… wissenschaftlich, wenn ich das schon höre. Was die schon so alles behauptet hat...

Once, in a land where the tide beat its rhythms out onto a rocky Cornish shore, there were two young boys who wanted more than anything to make people dance. 
Every Friday, after the school bell had rung, they set out with their record bags slung over their boyish shoulders. Together they hunted out caves, raves and illegal happenings. Here they made new friends with long hair, wide eyes and expansive minds. As the rumble of the techno and the rush of the ocean roared in their hearts, the two friends span their vinyl in the mud and firelight, and foraged in the dawn for wisdom, experience, blims and mushrooms. And when these briny nights were over, the two hugged out their brotherly love and crashed out in a tangled dream where bass drunk pirates danced in their heads, and myths of old whispered through their dance-music induced reverie. Boys become lads, lads become youths, youths become men. These men grew beards and marauded around the worlds various coastlines, lands and Kingdoms, weighing anchor in bays of breaks, beats and bass and traded melodies and herbs with the natives. After a long spell at sea they returned to more familiar shores and found a 4/4 scene that was refreshed and rejuvenated.
The good ship KYUBU was launched in 2014, navigating through a sea of mediocrity with TR20 at the helm, recruiting a crew of old sea-dogs and young buccaneers, its mission to spread sabre sharp sounds and treasures of pleasure to the world. KYUBU has been delivering booty, liberating beats ever since. When she rolls into port, no one can resist the urge to dance. As homespun grooves unravel into epic nights beneath the stars, all who step aboard are compelled to move their feet, as KYUBU and the boys dance over the horizon, destined for strange new shores.
