"We made the mix in a manner of a chess game, taking turns in appending tracks to it, sending to each other the new versions which end with our new "moves". An interesting game, as neither of us knows in advance what the other would throw into the mix. Every time, receiving the updated version of the mix, one has to "deal" with what arrives and find the way to continue. It’s worth the long wait, especially when it comes to Ambient, don’t rush it - it’s not fast food music. Here at Sofa Beats we love it slowly cooked and that’s what Christian Samsara gave us. Beside being a good friend he is a Danish-born DJ and avid records collector, embarked on his journey into electronic music during his early teenage years. It was during this time that he stumbled upon the ambient genre, which swiftly blossomed into his profound passion and eventually led him behind the decks.
Throughout the course of his DJ career, Christian has graced numerous festivals and events worldwide. Additionally, he has curated countless mixes for well-known podcast channels and shows such as Inveins, Campfire Stories by Silent Season, 꿈 Kkum, Orb Magazine, just to name a few, revealing his expertise in ambient, downtempo, IDM, and deep techno. His mixes are characterized by a unique blend of abstract cinematic soundscapes and intricate layers of organic textures.
In 2015, Christian Samsara became a part of Ultimae Records, his first compilation, "Isolated," was released in 2022 and he currently works on a second chapter to be released in 2024.

With his latest solo album Quiet Pieces initiating his imprint Soft Echoes, Abul Mogard mixes composers and collaborators that have permeated his discography and inspirations. An impeccable sense of flow and continuity defines these selections, as Mogard says: "I imagined this mix as an atmosphere you could inhabit – a quiet weave of pieces I’m drawn to. It’s a sound collage of old and new music, where tracks meet and overlap gently, carrying you along in a flow while subtly shifting the scenery beneath your feet." From groaning ambience to trilling winds and warm washes of glitching noise comes a frisson of flutes on Stefano Pilia’s ‘CADUX / Plectere’ over an all consuming rumbling bass drone. Mogard highlights vocals in the midsection: the hissing of ‘Anticredos’, Meredith monk’s harmonic conterplay with arrays of pointillist vocal notes, Félicia Atkinson’s spoken word barely rising from its quietude, before brewing a dense buzzing electrical storm of swirling currents and gyres with the final few tracks, the rugged and visceral clockwork of Rafael Anton Irisarri mechanically crumbling as William Basinski’s piano notes eternally intone.

Bleep Mix #303 - Abul Mogard

Solid Steel in association with Serato (13th May) Roly Porter takes charge of Hr 1 this week. He began his career as part of Vex’d alongside Kuedo, releasing two albums, Degenerate and Cloud Seed, both on Planet Mu, along with several singles on Bristol’s Subtext imprint. He later returned to Subtext under his own name to begin a solo project, releasing 'Aftertime' and 'Life Cycle of a Massive Star'. Earlier this year he released Third Law on TriAngle and 2 tracks from the album feature in his mix alongside music from Surgeon, Kowton, Amnesia Scanner, Yearning Kru and Aisha Devi.
