GABS003 sees Bristol's Works resident Portway join the label’s roster. With previous releases on TRAX HAVEN, Moon Rack, excess, Duckland and JUKE BOUNCE WERK, ranging from 100bpm chuggers to tearout jungle, Portway has established himself as a genre-defying chameleon. His forward-thinking sound design and innovative drum programming has gained recent support from LCY, A.Fruit, Skream and many others.

Portway takes a walk down the more percussive route in his contribution to our recently launched 2-track singles series, inspired by the likes of Sinjin Hawke, Scratcha DVA, Two Shell and Atrice. “Dropshipping” opens with a precautionary melody, descends into a flurry of metallic antiphony and is then quickly pierced by a formidable bassline complimented with intricately manipulated grime vocal samples. “Lithium Souls” combines shimmering pads with considered vocal chops and crackling drums. If you can feel a chill in the air it must mean there's more arcane sorcery being cooked up in the Blind Allies labs. This Latvian label are surely providing some of the strongest strains of pitch-black underground electro from lesser known operators in the machine funk catacombs. On this new various artists 12", White Mane Horse and Deputy Bender fire off sleek and sinister rhythms while UHU has a little tongue in cheek fun behind the veil of icy whispered vocals and nervy bleeps on "No Body Knows Electro". Theory Of Noise sound taut and robotic, Olloy keeps things plush but noirish, Rnbws fires off a high-definition sound and Theory Of Noise returns for the simply brilliant "Mission".

Arsonist Recorder - Vaxxer Remixes [Specimen Records]

Arsonist Recorder presents a selection of Vaxxer remixes from some brilliant electro producers, the brothers, and sisters of the Specimen Records camp. 

Its certainly been a weird year for sure, the title “Vaxxer” in 2020 was chosen back when I first saw this word popping up in some article, very early on in the Corona-saga. Who would have thought it would have become such a mainstay expression in our everyday lives hardly one year later. It has become yet another way to label people and put us into groups: “Vaxxers” and “anti-vaxxers”, another detail in the evolution towards a dystopia that is not happening in movies but in real day-to-day life.

Just a track name at first, we decided to use it also as the title for the whole EP which eventually was released in April 2020 on Specimen Records, and like anything virus-related it started living its own life, growing stronger as more DJ’s were picking it up: Dave Clarke, Solid Blake, DJ Stingray, Ralph Lawson, ADJ, to name but a few.

Now, a year ahead, it brings me great pleasure and honour to present these exclusive remixes and interpretations of Vaxxer, the artists involved are big inspirations and one by one true hero's of mine, most of whom have become dear friends in these difficult times. When these remixes started coming in, I'm in awe of the sonics that presented to me and I'm proud to present The Vaxxer remixes.

Instead of computing the new path to their destination, the onboard computer named "K4RL" decides to synthesize a new Electro song and deliberately chooses not to think about the crew's mission. So they got lost and had to hitchhike to save them from death.
