Soho Radio - Magic Castles  Forest TV ( Khan Yen Orzo & Charlie Nobody - 06.06.22

Nommo Hunzuu keeps himself somewhat shrouded in mystery. His passion for collecting and playing strange and cerebral sounds was first fuelled by his tenure during the 90s and early 00s behind the counter at a Kent-based record shop.

These discoveries have soundtracked dance floors at clandestine parties across the county, and more recently at Niburu, the London party he held a residency at alongside fellow DJ Terry Childs.

It was at these parties that he found himself warming up the floor for a wealth of like-minded contemporaries, including Linkwood, Lord Of The Isles, Justin Cudmore and Sharif Laffrey. His sets oscillate between darkness and light, sometimes otherworldly and at others heady, sketching a journey through everything from beatless ambient, drone and electronica to new wave, Kosmiche, techno and electro.

Away from the dance floor Nommo Hunzuu released a C60 mixtape cassette entitled 'Drinnen Traum' on LA label Origin Peoples, which offered an alternative soundtrack to the world of Twin Peaks.

His Monday mix offers a similarly immersive trip. If you're in need of some sonic-based R&R this morning (I can tell you we all are post-Houghton), then this carefully curated two hours of music is exactly what the doctor ordered. Tune in, drift off and let the blissful vibrations and celestial soundscapes wash over you... You'll forget it's Monday in no time.

Watching Trees festival took place in Forest of Dean over the weekend of 2-4 September 2022. A collaboration between Optimo and Ransom Note, with Funktion One handling the sound.

Planet Caravan was a cocktail bar dreamed up by Tracks E7 in Forest Gate, London. Nestled in the woods with a team of specialist DJs at the controls throughout Watching Trees festival.

The niftiest fiftieth - The latest instalment of this here mix series. 

50 is a milestone! You know we had to bring some heat. We had to make sure it was a big one. That's why we asked Richard to make us this super duty tough mixtape, and he kindly obliged! 

Richard has been a longtime associate of ours here at the GGHQ, a DJ, remixer, producer, B-boy and writer who we've appreciated for at least a couple of decades or more. He's someone who is legitimately from the old-school who's always trodden his own path, whether it's visually, sonically or as a DJ. He has laid down some of our favourite musical moments, edits and mixes over the years. We're honoured to have this jammy from him, and to be honest he 'went in', as they say... digging deeper into his b-boy roots to give us (in his words)a heavyweight selection:

"Inspired by 1970s New York City, drawing in influences from youth gang and biker culture, the origins of Hip Hop and graffiti culture and the rock music played by Francis Grasso, David Mancuso and Afrika Bambaataa. A raucous, high-speed ride through the funkier side of psyche, prog, Latin and heavy rock and breaks. Biker groove. Expect the unexpected and enjoy the ride..."

This is a real one, you can almost smell the subways and hear the chains rattling. Strap yourself in, and hold tight!
