Back in the Dark is the creation of the “DeepBlue Sessions” organisation, one of the South coasts longest running Deep House collectives.

Based at Bournemouth’s only true Underground club “The Winchester” since 2010, BITD has seen the likes of Andre Lodermann, Craig Smith of 6th Borough Project, Sam Hardaker from ZERO 7, Jimpster Matt Masters Norn de Plume of Freerange Records and Milton Jackson grace the “DEEPBLUE HIFI”, our custom built Kv2 Soundsystem that was obtained to give the djs and punters alike an unrivalled Audio experience at the BITD parties

A Northerner by heart, a Northerner by nature, DJ Mark J oozes friendliness like he’s just been smacked round the face with it. “I’m a very friendly guy, a lot of DJs have big egos. I don’t.” And with this friendly nature comes the kind of ‘go easiness’ that we all could do with a little more of. “My prerogative is, I play cool music, to cool people. And if they like it, then that’s cool too!” Mark J’s definition of cool music is deep , funky, soulful house, 
Originating from Hull, Mark J quickly familiarised himself with this kind of music in the early eighties,soul, disco travelling to the big Northern cities where “good all-nighters” were the place to be. “I fell in love with the music, the lifestyle and the people so I wanted to bring a little of it back home.” Dipping into his pockets to fund a hobby, Mark J purchased a set of DJ decks and started his journey. Playing soul funk n disco i soon fell into the early house groove. Playing at Welly Club Hull, then various warehouse parties in and around Yorkshire. “It was all about house music for me. ” I love all styles of house as long as its got a fat bass line and nice vocals. Double Drop have rapidly gained a reputation as one of the most exciting new live electronic acts in London. Drawing on their love of drum and bass, dubstep, hiphop and jazz, their 7 piece live show is a perfectly constructed and passionately executed journey through these styles. Pulsating synths and tasteful delays meet live drums and acoustic pianos, overlaid by mesmerising vocals and emphatic inner city sax. The show is performed 100% live, without the need for a backing track: real instruments in real time to create real movement.

With an impressive number of shows under their belt including Glastonbury, Lovebox and club venues across the UK, supporting Submotion Orchestra, Goldie and Jazzsteppa, Double Drop have been thrilling audiences since 2010. Featuring a diverse array of talented musicians who all met at the London Centre of Contemporary Music whilst studying for performance degrees, their self-titled Double Drop EP released in 2012 has attracted positive comments from all sorts of corners. 2014 promises big things including a single release and a full UK tour.

I have been DJ’ing since I was about 15yrs old and still love the music scene. I enjoy playing out in Raves and Venues around the UK. Some of the Events I have played in are: - Moondance, Total Hypnosis @Hidden-Vauxhall, London. Most Dream FM Events@ 9 Elms Lane, Vauxhall, London, and they held this at other Venues in London Regularly. Rewind @Ealing (Oldskool-West London), Slammin Vinyl, Bagley's, Ministry of Sound, Raw Club-Tottenham, Labrynth, Club Colloseum, Adrenalin Village, Destiny's @ Watford, Epidemik, Raindance, Club Life-London, Oprah House- Bournemouth, Liquid, Area in Vauxhall. Venue in Uxbridge, Middlesex. Area in Watford, The Star in Harrow, Middlesex….many more...!!!

 

I have played as a resident DJ @ ‘Garage Fever’.. Events, in and around London, back in the days of the UnderGround Garage Scene. There was also Pulse under 18’s Events held in Middlesex, and Acton, and central London areas.

With all my experience in the Rave and Club scene, I have played on many Radio Stations including Internet Radio: - Don FM, Freeze FM, Mirage FM, Life FM, Bashment FM, Dream FM, and UK's Finest.

I am also hard at work with my music production in my studio. The music I concentrate on and Produce is Drum 'n' Bass, Hard Step, and Commercial Pop, R'n'B, and Hip Hop. I also Produce Underground Garage, and Hard Trance and a bit of Techno when I get time, generally uplifting music. I like meeting and chatting to new people, and generally partying.
