After a great debut on the label as part of the V/A release Figure SPC R, new Spanish talent Regal is fully welcomed to Figure with his first EP. Showing off his ear for a twisted Acid line or two, Regal provides three tracks on the vinyl edition of Figure 62, and also a bonus burner for the digital realm.

The rising tension of 'Monomyth' is classic 90s acid, accented by the ear of a young man who is very much living in the present. Refined and tracky, Regal draws out every last drop of energy from a mere handful of well tuned ingredients, peaking his acid line sky high.

The snaking, heads-down 'Symbol' fits very much with Figure's 2014 manifesto - driving, precise modern techno, with clever arrangements that simple beg repeat listening and club play. The tweaking, after-hours vibes of 'Pointillism' continue this with a totally playable, bubbling minimalist killer.

Finally a more raucous offering can be found served up in the form of digital bonus track 'Pompous' - completing an accomplished DJ's record from a name to watch.

With the original release marking Rekids return from hiatus, Radio Slave's The Clone Wars is now revisited with a trio of new interpretations from three distinctive talents on house & techno.

On the A side, Markus Suckut moulds the original into the kind of no-nonsense rolling techno jam that has personified his releases for Mosaic and Figure. The B side enlists two US talents in the shape of Parris Mitchell and DJ Spider, with the former bringing a glitchy take on the jacking Chicago house that Mitchell perfected in his timeless productions for Dance Mania, and the latter shaping the track into crunchy weirdo techno that sits perfectly alongside his output for The Trilogy Tapes and his own NY-based Plan B Recordings.

After a successful debut year in 2016 on Soma, SLV kicks off 2017 in his suitably unique style with the Rises EP. The mysterious Berlin based producer has crafted a blazing 3 tracker that gracefully moves from hard hitting Deep Techno to more moving, melodic edged material. 

Connections gets things started at a fiery pace as SLV’s signature sub heavy, rolling percussion drives out atop a hollowed out vocal sample, aiming directly for peak time, dance floor action. Planetary goes a little deeper and hypnotic as yet more intense drums and crashing highs, combined with a mesmerising synth hook, end up in ferocious outcomes. Closing this latest release from SLV is Rises where he really takes things on a journey. Certainly things are at a slower pace than the previous two tracks but SLV makes up for that in emotive content. Beautifully crafted, delayed pianos are floated across driving beats and wisp-like hi hats. 

Another standout and individual creation for the, as yet, unidentified SLV.

It’s time again for us to welcome another first timer to the Second State roster: Rocko Garoni. Having been label manager of Sisyphon, in-house imprint of the acclaimed Sisyphos Club in Berlin, Garoni is no stranger to curating high quality records, and this time he gets to be curator of his own stunning ‘Detection’ EP.
Jumping in head first, ‘Detection’, mischievous number that is equal parts vicious and cunning as it is sensual and inviting. Provocative female whispers float over a beat sure to slay any crowd, any time. Switching gears, Garoni heads into houser territories on ‘Phaseful’, where glimmers of classic House artifacts are scattered like flickering shimmers over an energetic drum illustration. Coming up next is ‘Tragedy’. It’s low slung drums, vast spanning bass and sinister vocal declarations make it an ideal ambassador for the dark mysterious nights. A collaboration between Items & Things label boss Marc Houle and Grenoble born techno/electro legend Miss Kittin, IT022 sees the release of “Where is Kittin?” a six track EP featuring two original tracks, as well as remixes from Dubfire, John Foxx & the Maths, and two further edits from Miss Kittin herself.

Building on the disco-not-disco, industrial and new wave influences of Houleʼs recent Items & Things long-player “Undercover”, the two originals on “Where is Kittin?” demonstrate the wide-ranging influences and potent pairing of the production duo: the title track a jagged hybrid of Houleʼs signature style and Kittinʼs deadpan vocal talent. In sharp contrast, A2 track “Black Star” presents an equally driven, yet slightly more ambient affair: its haunting synth lines, detuned claps and granular vocals a poignant reminder of the pairʼs production abilities both on and off the dancefloor.

High profile remix duties come from Sci+Tec Techno mastermind Dubfire, as well as John Foxx & The Maths: a recently formed musical project featuring electronic music pioneers John Foxx and modular synth experimentalist Benge. Dubfire furthers the main room potential of the EPʼs title track, with John Foxx & The Maths bringing the male vocal line to the forefront, turning the track into a roaring techno/electro-pop live hybrid.

With “Where is Kittin?” also acting as a succinct accompaniment to Miss Kittinʼs double album “Calling From the Stars”, out on 22nd of April via wSphere/Wagram, Kittin appropriately rounds off the package with a further two of her own edits, a pair of eloquently stripped-down digitally exclusive versions of the EPʼs two title tracks.
