Sauna Youth - 'Transmitters'

Saif Mode is the electronic bloop project of TAAE's resident recording engineer Ben Hunter.

Over the last 6 months he's been making a glorious cassette of syncopated bleeps and squeaks, whilst also reading a lot about the chaos of early Christianity.

The Roux Whisk is a wearable antenna receiver which picks up electromagnetic fields from its surroundings and translate them into audible sound. It is part of a series of costume receivers made for 'Magnetoceptia', a collaborative project by Patrizia Ruthensteiner and Dewi de Vree.

The Roux Whisk, inspired by the shape of the historical Medici Ruff and constructed from bended hazelnut rods, is a stereo Antenna Receiver which includes two different patterns woven into the basic structure of the costume.

The project necessitates an involved participation and the object or event under consideration is by necessity considered not as an artefact but in its dynamic production that involves the performer/listener as intersubjectively constituted in perception, while producing the very thing he perceives, and both, the subject and the work thus generated concomitantly, are as transitory as each other.

 

Magnetoceptia
“Magnetoception: a sense which allows an organism to detect a magnetic field to perceive direction, altitude or location.”

Magnetoceptia is a series of performances and installations in which self constructed antenna-based costumes pick up electromagnetic fields and translate them into electronic sounds.

Hazlenut rods bended into the shape of a historical medici ruff, birch antlers, bamboo stems extending towards the skies, or an anachronistic recycled spinning wheel combined with open electronics and coils of copper wire wound into different patterns into the costume, the project is an investigation on different properties of natural and technological materials.

The experienced sound is site specific and depends on the electromagnetic fields that are present on the location. It is modulated by the performers by their positions and movements relative to the space and each other.

The 'homo superiors' (Friedrich Nietzsche) gain the ability to grow far beyond their human limitations and evoke a transformation not just physical extension, but also through sound and change of their 'sound shape' constantly audibly mirroring their surroundings.

London experimental five-piece return for more anarchic genre-blending adventures. 

London experimental five-piece Housewives return for more anarchic genre-blending adventures with their new single 'Speak To Me'; A synthesized collage written in Wetherspoons, cafes and anywhere away from their houseboats where they could find an electrical supply. 

Exploring the possibilities of electronic sound, with dead-behind-the-eyes chanting, this latest snippet of things to come marks a turning point for the band who sold their guitars to buy midi equipment and swapped London rents for houseboat living. 

Using huge live drums, saccharine vocal samples, pulsating sub bass and mechanically entwined guitar lines; 'Speak to Me' is a sign of the bands’ new direction with a constantly evolving sound, creating an anxiety and tightness that assumes the feeling of a knot in the stomach, or a strained smile. 

The band describe it as 'a love song of frustration and sensitivity through the eyes of a victim of the isolation of modern life. Quiet but not shy, voiceless, seething, dumb and in love'. 

In the video, created by the band and our in-house art department, we're transported into a manifestation of the inescapable digital experience of our everyday lives and its effect on our psyche. The thin layer of perceptible reality is constantly disrupted via the breaking of the digital facade.

Amorous Dialogues - Total Fucking Disastro

Adam Denton and Luke Twyman began collaborating under the name Trans/Human at The
Audacious Art Experiment HQ in Sheffield during 2011.

Employing several noise making devices and techniques in their performances, including mobile phones, radio, cassette tape, prepared electric guitar, processed drums, strobe lighting, contact microphones, field recordings and feedback systems, Trans/Human’s concerns lie within the physical act of music making and its relationship to environment and audience. Through their collaboration the duo sought to reflect their inclination towards creating ritualized sonic and visual experiences via a series of improvised performances, resulting in the cassette release, The 8 Hour Dance (2011). A further release on Blackest Rainbow, The Wider, was recorded in early 2012.

Trans/Human’s improvised performances led to important collaborations with New Aktionist artists Nick Kilby and Kris Kanavan. Throughout 2012 Trans/Human have developed their performances to use the artist’s body as a conduit between noise and audience. By amplifying objects used by Kilby or Canavan during these performances, Trans/Human have added to their repository of noise making devices, bringing together performance and sound art in an innovative and engaging way.
