Our latest sonic journey is a heartfelt gift from our dear friend, fellow dreamer and poet with words and sounds, @eeeeeeeugenia. We met at a very special gathering in rural Germany some years back and then kept bumping into each other on sandy dancefloors around Europe. You know what they say, bonds made on the dancefloor run deep and last an eternity, and this one is definitely the case ♥️

Eugenia’s musical sensibility is a harmonious union between her Italian heritage and her former Californian home. It is full of wild colours and complex scents, rich in deeply felt emotions and vivid memories. Her Introspective mix is a finely crafted hour of dusty pianos, undulating drones, warm and tingly downtempo and abstract grooves all peacefully co-existing in a slow-motion dance. In her own words, this mix somehow feels like a goodbye to the time she spent back in Bologna over these past spring and summer months ✨💌✨

It is undeniable that we are living in uncertain times. For those of us failing to fit the patriarchal, neoliberalist mould we have lost hope in the future. We can see capitalism is not working but we cannot yet envisage an alternative. We discover that the stability we were instructed to obtain whether it be financial, political or ecological, is fleeting, if at all. The resulting anxiety is an instrument of neoliberalism that prevents many of us from being able to raise consciousness of the structural injustices that alienate us.

In a world where security is no longer feasible, the only constant we can rely on is change. Barad teaches us that the world is a dynamic process of intra-activity and materialisation, an ongoing ebb and flow of agency. The Buddhist Law of Impermanence proves that nothing in this world is eternal.

Regardless of ones point of reference we can understand that every aspect of life, physical and mental is in flux and perhaps this transience is the only thing we can depend on.

Each month we invite an artist to ruminate on these ideas and create an hour of relief from these anxieties. A temporary suspension of reality, where the listener can speculate on alternate modes of existence that reject hetero- patriarchal systems of oppression.

This month we have invited @v-a-y-u to respond to this concept.

Mixed in self isolation during the Covid-19 crisis, this edition presents an assembly of previous Vaagner and Vaknar works, as well as other note worthy ambient pieces, yet it is truly in the closing moments of the mix, that come to define not just the mix as a whole, but our collective headspace during this unprecedented time - one that seems to continuously be bordering on a sense of adjourning optimism and tranquil, unwavering submission.

"Bel (meaning ‘bleating’ in Catalan) is a music selection made under two premises: (1) all the selected records must have been released in German-speaking countries, and (2) folk — understood in an open and vague way — as a starting point and also driving force. Other close subjects of personal interest also appear here: minimalism, dialectality, children's music and Orff's Schulwerk, tenderness and sweetness in sadness, kaleidoscopic hippism, lo-fi and amateurism, etc."

The selection was recorded at Felix’s house (Vielen Dank Felix für die Gastfreundschaft), because of Binomi – HOC Radio’s kind invitation (Gràcies Joan i Jordi per pensar en mi i deixar-me fer).
