Pleasure to welcome the wonderful 黑芝麻 to the series to start our new year's energy reset.

Not one to shy away from building emotion and narrative in her sets, 黑芝麻 weaves spoken word, poetry, and film samples into breakbeat, techno, trance, and jungle. She draws on topics of cultural identity and belonging, environmentalism, and sensuality. 

Thanks to 黑芝麻 for providing some sounds that were to be expected from the party that never was!

Sinny takes the reigns on the latest mix to date by supplying a slice of heavyweight business with tracks from the likes of Etch, TSVI and Dome Zero. 

Expect big boy chuggers, Xtreme amounts of bass, and a splash of jungle to end the mix in scintillating fashion.

Does this one need an introduction? Shell Tape 82 comes from the head of the Crab Claw cast, reasserting her claim to the crustacean name with an hour and half deep dive into a fittingly alien and underwater world. It's time for an Oceanic Orbit.

There’s a constant bubble of viscous energy that runs through this mix like hot water streaming forth from deep sea geysers that provide warmth and life to so many undersea animal communities. 

Tiny bubbles of percussion flicker as drum breaks come and go, ballooning bass hits impact and pop off into the ether, leaving a constant hum of rhythmic acid lines and rubbery synth sequences. It’s proggy, it’s flirtatious, it’s futuristic and ultimately timeless with contemporary takes on techno, trance and rave tropes are warped with the energy, freedom and futurism
That drives so much dance music, new or old.

The sea floor is the final frontier, as alien as the surface of Mars. Slip into an orbit and lose yourself to ellipsis created throughout Shell Tape 82 - Kailyn Crabbe is guiding us from the centre and deep in her element.

Over the moon to share the latest entry in our SORRYMIX series -- a special live recording from a super special party mixed with love by our good friend Taal (@taal-nyc). We've been happily sharing dance floors with Taal (a.k.a. Adi) for yeeeeeeaaars !! I remember seeing him play for the first time during this open decks we did at our tiny release party for the debut EP from Ma Sha & Ru of Kindergarten Records back in 2019. He's a voracious music lover and a tireless contributor to the NYC dance underground through so many facets -- passionate DJing, tireless dancing, and fantastic party promotion running NYC's finest UKG night Bump! in addition to everyone's favorite pizza party 999-PIES. Hell he's also got a hand in lighting/installation - most recently putting together an installation for this year's Shaker Mountain weekender.

This recording is from a fantastic party Adi and his partner Leen threw on their roof in Bed Stuy. I believe they specifically picked the apartment because of said roof and this was their first proper party up there and certainly one for the books. You know what coincidentally  Adi and I have shared a lot of special moments on roofs over the last few years... I remember one of our first real conversations was on Taafe roof one morning at Sublimate.  Adi also threw another infamous roof party last summer just after re-opening where @t_o_n_y_g and I played our first post-pandemic set back and pretty much met half our friend group. Something special about roofs goin' on here people !! - @nickboydnyc

for many people, this was the first party of the outdoor party season this year. the weather was a bit chilly but we got some nice sun during the afternoon. all the DJs (devoye b2b shikha, marco weibel, livwutang) played excellent daytime sets and the crowd brought great energy to match.

I closed the party just after sunset, and this recording captures most of my set, up until the cops came knocking (lol). definitely turned up the gas on this one. some UKG/bass, some techno, some jungle, lots of energy. enjoy 💫

Q. How would you describe yourself?
A. Cutty Sav.  In Love.  Grateful.

Q. How long have you been a part of the NY music scene?
A. I first performed in NYC in 2005 with my teenage metal band Animosity and many times over the next few years.  I loved the feverish energy of the New York shows and when the band broke up in 2009, I moved to Brooklyn from my hometown San Francisco. I’ve been raving it up here ever since. In my first couple years here I used to DJ using Abelton Live at small clubs like Zebulon and Glasslands and some parties that friends and I would throw around Brooklyn.  After a while I basically lost interest in playing out, but definitely continued to seek new music all the time and just go in deeper on the dancefloor.  I think I was enjoying parties more just as a dancer because it freed up my listening experience from hunting for new tunes or aspiring to control the vibe.  It wasn’t until about a year ago that I ran it back and really got excited about DJing again.  Thanks to some very encouraging friends I’m playing more frequently these days and every time it’s a joyful celebration.

Q. Tell us a little bit about this mix.
A. These are all tracks that I have been playing out recently.  This mix is that single top shelf mushroom that smacks a little too hard.  It's getting kicked out of your beautiful apartment in a horrific rental market.  It's projectile barfing off the platform of a six flags roller coaster and then eating ice cream.  Its fucking at the edge of a massive Icelandic waterfall.  This is an hour of peak time Baby Leo going straight in, making up for all those years I didn’t. It’s Dripping. It’s Groovy. It’s a Low Frequency Wormhole.  It’s all love inside.
