Vardae’s creative world is deeply rooted in the psychedelic experience. Dreamed up by an auditory alchemist, Vardae’s highly imaginative take on techno combines microscopic detail, intricate rhythms, celestial soundscapes, and a pervasive depth that pushes listeners to the edges of their perception.

Vardae’s sound is visceral, exuding a ritualistic quality and an alluring, primal energy that bridges the gap between music for the body, mind, and the spirit. The resulting works are metamorphic—dynamic, hypnotic, and immersive sounds spanning forward-thinking techno, hypnotic half-time, and contemporary drum and bass.

Beyond his productions, Vardae’s creative vision extends to his work with Ewo ‘Eyes Wide Open’ Collective, where he curates multisensory experiences like ‘House of the Singing Wood’. This quadraphonic sound haven has been showcased at Europe’s premier festivals, including Per:sona, La Nature, and Monument, offering audiences a space for reconnection and transformation. Ewo also host regular Rituel Résonance events and a bi-monthly Chimera show on LYL Radio further provide platform for guests of shared values. A proponent of collective approaches to sound, Vardae also contributes to the growing gathering that is Ouroboros, a french festival and events series hosted alongside 13 friends.

Vardae continues to pioneer the convergence of psychedelic sound, visual artistry, and cultural curation. Undoubtedly one of my favourite artists at the moment, I am incredibly grateful to have had Vardae on the show! Broadcased live on PBS on the 27th December, 2024.

We are so excited to welcome @opheliek to our mix series. The French, Berlin-based DJ and producer has an affinity for low frequencies, intricate percussions and bass-heavy music in all its forms. As an early lover of dub music, UK techno, IDM, and illegal raves, their sound often finds itself at the intersection between dubstep, techno, IDM, with hints of psychedelic music and trance.

“I had quite a different idea originally for this mix, but ended up being quite ill and super tired the last few days, so the recording had to be much more spontaneous and less planned than what I usually like to do for a podcast. It's more of a feverish dream, and showed me I may have some bottled up feelings and a bit of anger inside (who doesn't, seeing the world we live in now)! It felt good to express it through this mix which ended up being quite intense and psychedelic, but also softer and more introspective in parts.”

Basel’s Timnah joins our series with a long-anticipated recording from last year’s inaugural pe:rsona, an intimate gathering from the minds at Positive Education. Over the years Timnah has established a reputation for expansive and visionary selections without equal, lending her voice to the beloved Amentia and A Walking Contradiction collectives and leading audiences into captivating unknowns worldwide. Recorded live in the French countryside at the peak of summer, Timnah’s set smolders with delicate tension, lacing outward like tendrils upon shattering glass. Marius Bø is a figure within the northern hemisphere of the electronic music landscape, his artistry is deeply rooted in a profound connection to nature's atmosphere and the communal spirit of open-air gatherings. As one of the co-founders of the Oslo-based collective Ute, Marius' musical journey finds its origins nestled amidst the Norwegian forests. It is here, between the trees and rustling leaves, that his sound took root, hosting and playing parties deep in the woods. Founded in 2017, the Ute label boasts a cult-like following for its approach to psychedelic trance music as well as long form downtempo and chill out sounds presented on sub labels Sinensis and Translusid. 

Marius’ sets can be seen as a concoction of psychedelic atmospherics, renowned for his extended sets, generating dynamic tensions and sublime releases that work both the body and mind. Mastering different tempos and moods of deep hypnosis, he deftly connects the dots between old school records and futuristic soundscapes. Whether it’s ambient, idm, trance or techno, the Ute label-head seamlessly blends the sounds with a captivating elegance. 
From hazy braindance to high-energy vibrations in mist-shrouded forests, balmy shores and dimly-lit basements, Marius navigates diverse settings with his distinctive musical style that takes a gentle yet firm grip on the soul. 

His unique approach has brought him to iconic venues such as Pawnshop, Bassiani, and Macadam, and to international festivals like Monument in the heart of Norway’s forest, Organik on a hidden peninsula in Taiwan and Outsider Festival, deep in the Australian bush. Whether in intimate clubs or verdant outdoor landscapes, Marius' music carries an organic and trippy spirit that transcends time and space.
