This fall, Detroit techno icons Octave One serve up the third volume of their Locus of Control EP series. The two-track offering again explores the ‘power or powerlessness people feel over the things that shape their world,’ and never has that been more true than during the last 18 months of the pandemic.
It has almost been two years since the release of the last installment. Of course, the pandemic largely explains that delay, but that doesn’t mean the celebrated Burden Brothers haven’t stayed busy in other ways. Already in 2021, they have served up their Reworks and Whatever She Wants EPs, and have also revived their more introspective 90s alias Neveron Sunday for a new EP later in 2021. More than 25 years after first starting out, they continue to shapethe modern techno landscape with their famous analogue approach, as this new EP proves.
It opens with the superb ‘Shameless,’ a heavily percussive yet elastic track that bangs from thestart. The bassline is dark and menacing but also has a subtle sense of techno funk. Once the pixelated chords arrive, the track is doused in a cosmic energy that will take dance floors to the next level. Then comes ‘School of Seven Bells’, a straight-up seven-minute techno workout laden with rich layers of synth and a baseline full of suspense. It immediately gets you on your toes and the ever-evolving pads and loopy drums ensure maximum impact throughout.
These are two more thought-provoking, body-shaking tracks from techno’s finest.

We have the great pleasure of premiering a track from of one techno’s most instrumental figures, Robert Hood under his Monobox alias. This comes as part of Regenerate album which is due for release tomorrow on his infamous imprint, M-Plant.

Robert Hood began his Monobox alias in 1996 and has since released an album and various EP’s under the monarch. Today we premiere the track ‘Blackwater Canal’ which comes as part of his seven track album which features classic minimal grooves from the proclaimed founder of minimal techno.

Robert Hood: “Monobox was an alien project. I read this book when I was probably around 13 or 14. It was this ominous black box that came from some other universe, and it was just sort of hovering over the planet, over a cornfield somewhere.” 

For the return of Monobox, Hood has envisaged that the vessel has been lying dormant for 40 or 50 years and is now beginning to rise up again, or regenerate.

We premiere ‘Blackwater Canal’ which is minimal tribalism at it’s very finest. Polyrhythm infused percussive grooves are combined with the classic deep and pounding Robert Hood kickdrum. Soulful vocal stabs are matched with sweeping synths and pads, that are synonymous with the Detroit sound. It’s deep, banging, funky, soulful and summarises everything we love about Robert Hood.

Rekids welcomes back Tal Fussman with the I Feel EP, following up his 2024 Definition EP on Radio Slave’s label, which won support from the likes of Honey Dijon, Orlando Voorn, Yu Su, Saoirse, Dave Clarke, and more.

The Innvervisions, COD3QR artist and Survival Tactics label boss starts I Feel with the title track and, in true Fussman fashion, infuses drummy club cuts with plenty of feeling via soulful synths and apt vocal sampling.

The rolling organic percussion of MAD continues, locking us in the groove while hard-hitting stabs fly above before Bongo Man channels the lush sounds of the rainforest alongside more expert drum work.

Closing out the I Feel EP, Tal Fussman works with fellow producer 8-AN to drop the dream-like strings of Life Itself, another deep track that is as club-ready as it is introspective.
