Fouk, comprised of schoolmates Daniel Leseman and Hans Peeman (aka Junktion), first caught our attention in 2014 with their First Things First debut on Output. The Dutch duo then followed it up with releases on Room with a View and Detroit Swindle's Heist. They now deliver their fourth EP, Gruff, on London-based House of Disco Records, where Fouk now join a roster already boasting Francis Inferno Orchestra, Psychemagik, Late Nite Tuff Guy, Monitor 66 and more.

The title track and our favourite off the release, "Gruff" is an amalgamation of all funk music's greatness – a walking bassline underpin, groove-fuelled guitar licks, heady melodies on a wah-wah synth and dreamy vocal snippets. A healthy tribute to old-school funk in a modern-day format fit for any dancefloor.

Fouk's Gruff EP drops on vinyl on 18th January and digitally on 1st February 2016.

"To launch our record label, we at Bouquet. wanted to lead with a V/A compiling compelling and unusual tracks from both new and established artists that we respected. We wanted to be true to our namesake, and offer different shapes and shades and colors of music that went together pleasingly and cohesively. We turned to our friend Caffeine Worldwide" :
"Last year, the party series Bouquet asked me to curate a compilation for them as a means of launching their new record label. The idea was: eight tracks, eight artists, and a pay-what-you-want release that would send a portion of proceeds to charity. Sounded easy enough.
I dropped a line to every working producer I knew personally or was merely aware of; I scoured Soundcloud for new artists; I damn-near harassed some of my closest friends for interesting work. Eight months and a thousand Facebook messages later, and it’s finally ready for you to rinse.
Rather than the random collection of b-sides and sketches that characterizes most digi comps, Bouquet. and I were very keen on making this a cohesive collection from front to back. I think we ended up with exactly that—and a collection that reflects the eclectic, fun party lineups that Bouquet. usually books.
Proceeds from the comp will benefit The San Diego Foundation, a 501c3 that administers grants to over 1700 nonprofits in the San Diego region. For those anxious to grab this release before it's available on the 27th, $1 presale downloads are available right now on the Bouquet. Bandcamp page."

Mumiy Troll are one of the most influential indie-art bands in Russia and helped shape the music scene in the post-Soviet state with their 1996 album ‘Morskaya’, inspiring a whole generation of musicians. In 2018 the band released a new album which featured the standout track ‘Jimolost’ which now, in collaboration with Kito Jempere, gets six different remixes.First up is Kito Jempere's Band Revision. Jempere has been making music for more than a decade and is a talented multi-instrumentalist, DJ and producer. He has been involved in a number of bands from punk rock to electronic to acid jazz and makes music under many different aliases from DJ Kirill Sergeew to The Saint Petersburg Disco Spin Club. He has been extremely selective with his remix work in the past, only taking on rare and interesting projects with previous re-workings for the likes of Red Snapper, Mujuice and SBP4. Here he brings the talents of his full band to bear with an inventive version that is awash with blissful chords and splashing hits while the aloof vocal adds to the horizontal effect of the Balearic grooves.KTO DJ? is another Russian legend who brought drum'n'bass culture to Russia in the Nineties as DJ Boomer and had a huge influence on club culture with the opening of 1-2-3 clubs. He also performed as KTO DJ? at the Olympic Games 2014 Closing Event. Here he goes for a techno version that is littered with acid twitches, dark vocals and frazzled synths that never let up. Amsterdam based deep house artist Nachtbraker delivers a superb ‘Lullaby’ version that is silky and smooth. His infectious rubbery drums and dreamy pads are underpinned by shuffling, garage-flecked rhythms to make for something beautifully weightless yet dynamic.Bonfire Records artists Schier supply an indie-dance version that is melancholic and tender, with lingering, pained chords and heartfelt vocals that will make for a perfectly moving and uplifting moment on the floor. Belgium’s finest buzzsaw synth and distorted drum lovers Raveyards then step into trance/techno territory with their shiny metallic rework featuring twisted and turning synths and stomping drums never let up. Finally there is a closing trip-hop remix from Greek artist Moderator that is perfectly loose and organic, with live sounding drums and big hits tumbling from above.This is a fantastically diverse package of electronic music of many different colours and contours.

Summer Days (Remix) feat. Bajka

Having given us one of the most successful album releases in the Wah Wah catalogue with their eponymous debut over 18 months ago now, Bristol siblings in jazz the Colman Brothers have finally succumbed to the remix project we’ve all been waiting for, and what a project it is!

The brothers’ sophisticated style and penchant for 60s latin influenced jazz by the likes of Horace Silver and Francy Bolland has been brought right up-to-date by some of the most heavyweight producers around, and a few new names to watch. 

Up and coming beat-maker from Caracas, Venezula, Jimmy Flamante kicks things off in a low slung style akin to producer of the moment Tall Black Guy, who also features with his typically laid back re-working of one of the original album’s highlights. Elsewhere, latin specialist Sunlightsquare drops a 4/4 version of “Some Other Wonder” that’s aimed strictly at the dance floor, as does the mysterious Bman, and newcomers Skinshape impress with a dubbed out take of  the very cheeky “Momo”.

Look out for Herma Puma’s re-imagination of “The Chief”, taking it directly back to its B-Movie roots, as well as the popular interpretation by our very own Part-Time Heroes. And don’t forget label mate/boss Scrimshire who also weighs in with a sultry remix of “She Who Dares” and beat heads Frameworks, whose version of “El Nino” will keep lovers of both hip hop and jazz happy in equal measure.

Add to that sublime mixes from UK legends Easy Access Orchestra and The Herbaliser, NYC’s Greenwood Rhythm Coalition, Hamburg’s Renegades Of Jazz and of course, Bristol’s very own Colman Brothers themselves, and you’ve got an international selection of the highest order!
