Closing in on the Kanzleramt 20th anniversary, we proudly introduce another classic track, originally released on Richard Bartzʼ Kurbel, “Souldancer”. In 2005 Heiko used the original Souldancer on his album Spread on Kanzleramt (ka123) and here come the all fueled up mixes by Heiko Laux and the Buenos Aires top producer Jonas Kopp.

Dutch techno legend Steve Rachmad, aka STERAC, joins the Klockworks ranks with an outstanding four-track EP, set for release on June 23rd.

For almost 20 years, Steve Rachmad has concentrated on the kind of melodic, grooved club tracks that DJs love, releasing on labels such as Music Man, Rejected, Tresor and Wolfskuil. Over this time, he has been responsible for some of techno's true classics, 'Astronotes', 'Asphynx' and 'Thera' to name a few. The particular tracks signed by Ben Klock for KW12 draw from a number of the styles STERAC has explored over the years, and each add something else of their own.

Opener 'Track 2' is punchy and brilliantly executed, setting the tone for the rest of the EP. It centres around coarse mid-range notes that develop throughout and bind the warm lows with high-frequency hiss.

Rachmad uses a similar sound palette on 'Rotary', a track that featured prominently in Ben Klock's Fabric mix CD. This time he opts for a more spacious mix, allowing the unpredictable texture of hardware to create a retro bassline sure to get any crowd moving.

'In Circles' is deep and moody, but with uplifting strings and a Detroit feel. The strings give 'In Circles' the 3-dimensional, sci-fi quality that often marks out techno of the highest order, they are bouncy but reserved in their arrangement, keeping the track's energy in perfect balance.

'Scheepsrecht' ends this release in style. The producer weaves the core elements with canny arrangement and an endlessly-dynamic mix, resulting in hypnotic, hard-as-nails club gear.

Bringing old-school production values up-to-date and keeping that unmistakable Dutch flavour, STERAC shows another side to the Klockworks sound. KW12 is sure to be on constant rotation amongst techno DJs of all styles, and will prove itself to be yet another essential Rachmad record.

Alistair Wells is a producer whose current work is synonymous with a kind of benevolent intensity: he excels at sculpting tonally rich and percussively complex tracks that seem to both enlighten and confront. Under his most well known alias as Perc, he has established a deep roster on his PercTrax label to carry out a similar-minded program, and has built up a formidable arsenal of EPs and singles in the wake of enigmatic LPs like 2011's Wicker & Steel. His 'eclectic-yet- disciplined' methodology has also made him an integral component of the always-evolving Stroboscopic Artefacts organism, being involved early on with the label's Monad series and participating in every possible capacity from production partner to remixer to solo artist. His latest contribution, Ma, is a fascinating new EP that showcases his talent for testing the limits of perception.
The ominously titled opener "Death of Rebirth" - a title hinting at some form of hellish repetition - starts things off with a sense of dark premonition. Yet, in signature Perc style, that aura of uneasiness beckons listeners to explore further rather than to flee from it: in this context, the reliable 4/4 kick drum throb is the only means of orienting oneself or angling through a glassy and metallic labyrinth where foreign objects conspire to make previously unimagined percussive
noises. "Negative Space" is a variation upon this theme of trying to maintain focus within a foreign environment bristling with strange enticements and potential dangers: with the kick pattern from the previous pice still acting as a trusty guide, new sound forms arise at every turn: a novel sort of hybridized piano / gamelan tone, a shuddering assembly line, and snaking delay feedbacks. Like dub music meant to be listened to in a hall of mirrors, "Negative Space" induces a heady feeling of multiplying realities.
The closing "Ma", if translated into Japanese, can mean "space / pause" and thus acts as a nice complement to "Negative Space." However, this massive, side-long audio force field dispenses with the previous tracks' steady pulse, and suggests a rigorous act of ritual contemplation taking place in the midst of phenomenal chaos and challenging blows to the body. "Ma" succeeds in modernizing the industrial-era rhythmic invocations of artists like Z'ev, achieving an almost classical solemnity without sacrificing Perc's usual love for cleverly maniuplated electricity. Altogeher, ‘Ma’ is an eye-opening, ear-infliltrating statement that will warp your understandings of time and space in a most exquisite way.

This latest installment in the Stroboscopic saga once again calls upon the talents of two label veterans; both having released EPs on the label while also contributing to its five-year retrospective series. This new split release shared between Kangding Ray and Rrose is a fitting partnership: after all, both individuals are known for advancing the progress of rhythmic electronic music while drawing from creative influences and movements that weren’t typically associated with the ‘techno’ lineage until these producers made such links possible.
Kangding Ray’s side, “Ardent,” is a gripping and propulsive piece formed in the same spirit as the songs from his latest full-length, Cory Arcane. Dramatic and cinematic from beginning to end, it makes the listener and/or dancer feel like a highly alert martial artist slicing and kicking through a host of liquid-metallic adversaries, with disciplined synth bass and rich melodic swells as defensive weapons. Slick and accessible without ever being conventional, “Ardent” convincingly collages stuttering and minced sequences together with steady percolation and smooth, brassy undertones - three different sonic ‘states of matter’ that unify to make Kangding Ray’s musical
imagination into an almost tactile thing.
The entity known as Rrose, meanwhile, presents a track here that reaffirms that artist’s expert skill at crafting perfectly symmetrical and mesmerizing musical palindromes (a skill that can be seen on other standout Stroboscopic Artefacts tracks like “The Stare,” and also on Rrose’s interpretation of James Tenney’s classic palindrome “Koan [Having Never Written A Note For Percussion]).” The track in question, “Swallows,” is appropriately named, impressing upon listeners like the sonic equivalent of a massive searchlight which, once it lands upon its target, swallows or vacuums up the listener’s conscious attention. This elegantly arching set of multiplying and disintegrating waveforms rewards those with the courage to return its insistent gaze and to “play at maximum” volume to reveal the wealth of detail concealed within its deceptive minimalism.
With its scientific exactness and sheer originality, this split is an essential listen not just for fans of either artist, but also for any seeker after new perceptual revelations.

The Soma Coma Series returns with its 7th instalment, bringing original and reworked tracks from Soma's current roster alongside some of the wider electronic music community. Aimed at the more ambient, cerebral side of Techno, Soma Coma 7 features Slam, Rebekah, Edit Select, Jonas Kopp, Clouds and more adding to the high standard set by this well loved compilation series.
Consisting of a massive 13 tracks, the immersive qualities of the album are apparent from the start with Deepbass' Ambient Version of Circa opening the album, quickly followed by the always on point Deepchord with Roca 9 - tarn from his most recent Soma LP. Current Soma collaborators SLV & Edit Select offer two very contrasting pieces with Glasgow's own Petrichor making an appearance with the glistening Ko-Rah. An uncharacteristic piece from Rebekah highlights her dynamic production skills while recent offerings from 04LM & Charles fencer once again find their place within the album. Labels heads Slam makes various appearances with exclusive remixes of their 'Reverse Proceed' project finally seeing the light of day. Jonas Kopp, Clouds, & Jeroen Search breathe new life into the already exquisite material from the Glasgow Duo.

The Tributary - Losing your way

Part 2 of the IMF 10 compiulation focuses on the warmer and more soulful side of IMF and features an outstanding array of artists making their debut for the label, all of which have a strong personal meaning to Fengler. There’s FJAAK, the exciting Berlin trio he admires for their authentic identity and honest sound, a special Shed remix of the enigmatic VRIL whose timeless productions continue to strike a chord with him, good friend Eric Cloutier who he has long wanted to get involved in IMF and of course long-time label champion Thomas Hessler. Vienna’s Arthur Robert – a new face Marcel discovered after he sent him tracks over Facebook – contributes a beautiful shimmering work to the compilation.
