For those unaware of the concept of the Round Up: Each artist that released on Heist in 2020 gets to remix another artist from that year. This year, there's the feel-good festival vibes on Crackazat remix of ‘Dakar Disco’ and the rolling tech goodness of Kassian’s remix of Nebraska’s bonkers track ‘Dip & Flip’. Pitto takes an excursion into deep dubbed out house with his remix of Kassian’s ‘8th Movement’ and Nebraska goes for a UK house meets US garage meets Christopher Walken’s cowbell solo on his remix of ‘Move out the way’ by Dam Swindle. The label heads take on their house stabs with their atmospheric and pumping remix of Teleseen’s ‘Dekalb’, while the latter goes for a worldly approach with his remix of ‘Discko’ by Pitto. There’s also the superb Detroit house approach from Scan 7 with their remix of Crackazat’s ‘Class one’, and we hear Alma Negra adding some vocal and synth layers to the gospel house of Scan7’s killer track ‘All for me’.

Finally it’s here! After what has felt like an eternity of delays, I've just taken delivery of the debut EP on my new label Shakedown Avenue! 

The title track 'Make That Move' as some will know has been a long time coming. Originally due to be released on Mr Tophat & Art Alfie's Karlovak label a number of years ago. They unfortunately ended the label before the release could happen, so I held on to the track in the years since, always knowing I'd create my own label down the line. 

Not only is it an immensely proud moment for me to finally launch the label, it's a huge honour to be able to feature a remix of 'Make That Move' from my biggest musical inspiration Phil Weeks! 

The record also includes the tracks 'Fell In Love While Dancing' and 'Special' on the flip to complete the package, which comes in a fully printed outer, with an amazing hand drawn design depicting the funky world of Shakedown Avenue.

This EP is a collection of my favourite 90s inspired deep house tracks that I have created over the last couple months - been sitting around for a while and finally wanted to get some out there.

I think these tracks best represent my style of production, I am really proud of all of them and hope others enjoy listening to them as much as I enjoyed creating them.

Kyoku Records slid onto the scene last June with Ethyene‘s remarkably heady Obsessions EP. One year and a couple EPs later (from the likes of Dorsi Plantar and Long Island Sound) and we arrive at their fourth release: Sune‘s 8 Till Late. If there’s one thing the Melbourne-run house  imprint has demonstrated in their fresh run, it’s the ability to scope upcoming talent and cultivate polished EPs fitting their stylistic vein. The Kyoku sound could be described as a sample-based melange of bright, deep and sometimes whimsical moods. It’s like staring into a goddamn tropical sunset.

Sune, who recently made his vinyl debut on a sweet V/A from Lagaffe Tales, is of course part of High Hat Appreciation Society – a dope little collective of DJs and producers. On his first full EP, the Malmo man brings his approach of dusty beats and delectable sample flips in full. The B-side hosts the harder-going disco looper « Pistachio Sour » and its remix from Fouk’s ever-dope Daniel Leseman. Meanwhile, A-Side showcases the laidback and effortlessly groovy sounds of the label and producer, which brings us to our premiere.

While the lead track strolls along with a delectable jazz guitar sample and a big warm bassline, the title track, « 8 Till Late » explores paradisiacal territory. A crackling sample/machine layered drum beat backs the intro, with a tropical xylophone slowly filtering into the fray. When the full action is finally unleashed, a bouncy bassline joins perfectly with the riffing mallet instrumentation, a subtle rhythm guitar and sweet string stabs to create a heady summertime jam.

8 Till Late looks to be a warm weather sureshot for those of us in the northern hemisphere. The record should be hitting stores early next month and is available to preorder on Juno.

"I Can't Back”, the closing track of the EP, Guri inserts a more funky & electric sound starred with a certainly fitting vocal chop. A solid production from the Sub_Urban Label Producer/DJ.

Now whilst you may argue that the choice of name is questionable, there is no question however that this tune does damage out on the floor. A masterful touch of restraint is shown here, with its deeper than deep filtering and arrangement. Only allowing the track to come up for a brief rush of oxygen here and there before diving back down to the disco depths. Lovely stuff!
