What is originality in music anymore? It's something I've struggled with as a producer and DJ for much of the past 10 years. As a producer I've pretty much given up on sounding original, but as a DJ I've always tried to find music that sounds original or at least attempts to do so. When it comes to dance floor music I've found it nearly impossible to find music that truly has an original sound to it, but I've been finding all sorts of abstract and eclectic Electronica and random tracks here and there that to me really feel like they're doing something different or going Against The Grain if you will....

When two of the worlds best electronica/downtempo producers and DJs, Bluetech and Dj Maggie respectively asked me to create a set for their streaming show Holotropic Happy Hour I knew this was the perfect opportunity to finally put together a set of these tracks! I hope you enjoy the journey!

WOW Moontribe turned 29 this year and still going strong! Who woulda thought our little full moon gatherings we started in 1993 would have become what it has become? Well I did, I knew it from the start! 

I had the honor of playing a 7 hour set to close it all out too!!! 7 fricken' hours!!! Ok well the last hour is definitely me just playing random songs I love for my friends (even thru in a Phil Collins track!), but that first 6 hours was pretty serious stuff!!! I started at around 10am and playing until 5pm ish. I hope you enjoy the journey!!!

After 30 years I didn't think Moontribe could reach a new peak, but we absolutely did with our 30 year anniversary Full Moon Gathering! The location was unreal, the weather perfect and the people brought so much love and dance floor energy, I was simply blown away completely! 

Here is my night time Techno set played from 9pm to 11pm on night 2 inside the most beautiful stage structure by Symbiotic Creations in front of a dance floor filled with super charged energy under the big bright full moon!!!

My PlayAlchemist set was by far gonna be my biggest set of the week. It simply wasn't meant to be as the rain shut down their camp for the rest of the burn (big time sad face)! I spent a lot of time crafting this set with the vibe of this epic camp in mind and re-recorded it in hopes that the energy and vibe I intended can be captured a bit...this set was meant to be played from 12:30am to 2:30am so clearly I planned a bit more than that with the intention of playing the section(s) that felt best in the moment.

"Against The Grain 2" is the long-awaited follow-up to one of TREAVOR MOONTRIBE's most popular mixes. It takes listeners on a deep journey through abstract electronica, downtempo, and ambient soundscapes—music that defies convention, psychedelic yet subtly so. Treavor Moontribe co-founded the Los Angeles-based "Moontribe Collective" and its iconic full moon desert gatherings. Since 1993, these events have been integral to Southern California's underground electronic music scene and continue to this day. Through these gatherings, Treavor established himself as a prominent DJ in LA, leading to performances worldwide, including Brazil, Japan, Morocco, Portugal, Germany, and across North America. His DJ sets are distinguished by their diversity, reflecting his broad musical tastes spanning multiple genres. Over the years, Treavor has also gained recognition as a music producer, releasing work under various project names. It had been quite some years since I was invited to play at PsyTribe let alone asked to close it out which is the best slot there IMO. I was told I could play pretty much as long as I wanted, but after a bit over 3 hours the land owners pulled the plug unexpectedly. Those bastards! It's full moon! We are glad to have @Treavor-Moontribe at the controls of our mission 06.

In June of 1993 a small group of friends gathered under a full moon in the Mojave Desert of Southern California. Over 23 years later these gatherings are still going strong and easily the longest running truly underground event of its kind in America, perhaps the world. They call themselves Moontribe and still to this day you will find no promotion for these events. There is no Facebook event for it, there are no flyers on the streets, no posters…no hype! Yet somehow this tribe finds each other under that full moon deep in the desert to dance to hypnotic beats and celebrate life! DJ Treavor Moontribe is one of the founders of these gatherings, one half of the electronica/chill out project @DesertDwellers and a 19 year veteran of Burning Man.

Some words from Treavor: 

I don't play Ecstatic Dance events often, but I've performed at several during the Ecstatic Awakenings Retreats hosted by the lovely Ronja Sebastian. I really love playing these events, because Ronja puts her full trust in me to achieve the one main goal of making people dance ecstatically. She doesn't put rules on me about how the set needs to go or what type of music I need to play, which is a huge reason I don't seek out gigs at e-dance events usually. She knows that I know who Im playing for and how to get them dancing! This past December 2018 the retreat took place in Bali which is one of my favorite places on earth! I was tasked with transitioning from Techno to Psy Trance which I haven't done in quite some time, but thankfully the label Zenon Records exists with their style of techno infused psy as its the key element in this situation! 

Full Moon Festival 2019 took place weekend of July 13th in the beautiful Colorado outdoors where a bunch of us old school Moontribe DJs were brought out to play. It was lovely!

Treavor Moontribe co-founded the Los Angeles-based "Moontribe Collective" and its iconic full moon desert gatherings. Since 1993, these events have been integral to Southern California's underground electronic music scene and continue to this day. As a DJ, his sets are distinguished by their diversity, reflecting his broad musical tastes spanning multiple genres. This diversity is also reflected in his original music production, with his most notable projects being Desert Dwellers, PheuZen and his namesake Treavor Moontribe. Through his two self owned and managed record labels Dreaming Awake and Alien Breakdance, as well as a host of other top labels around the world, Treavor’s music has topped many charts and been played by countless top DJs. 

Beyond music production and DJing, Treavor has also been deeply embedded in the music business itself. From 2005 to 2012 he was the Director of Dance/Electronic at INgrooves Music Distribution, starting with the company when they had less than 15 employees and leaving when there were well over 100. He also co-founded the record label Desert Trax with his fellow Desert Dweller, Amani Friend. Their label helped launch the careers of several prominent names in the downtempo/chill out music scene and has over 150 releases to date.
