All of the elements we know and love are here; pulsating synths, shadowy effects, tense atmospherics and stomping drums.The three closing tracks show Mr. Carassi in top form again, with &#8220;Phorme&#8221; setting the tone with staccato stabs and rumbling subs. &#8220;Globular Cluster&#8221; gives a taste of a dismal, mechanized future, and the closing &#8220;Old Fashioned Lover&#8221; gives a firm nod to the old school with trademarked chords and familiar vocals.

In what is a momentous occasion for Soma Records, we hit the milestone 400th release of the label and who better to see this in than label heads SLAM as they lead up to their new album due to drop this October. Soma are proud to present the double A sided Rotary/Catacoustics. Slam have been locked away in the studio these past months working hard on their latest album which sees them look to past machines and new technologies to form the base of this new album. These album sessions have spawned two raucous tracks that state where the veteran producers are with their sound. These tracks have the dance floor firmly in mind and display the years of experience Slam have in knowing what exactly will whip up a storm.

Rotary opens the EP with a definite analogue rawness as a storming synth hook leads the track from the offset. Keeping it stripped back the boys allow the hook to bend and evolve over the course of the track, reminiscent of early Hood-esq minimalism. Straight up percussion backs the track and keeps the groove true to Techno.

Catacoustics takes things down a deeper route as low subs rumble while a nicely delayed bell tone reverberates gently in the background giving depth to the track. Strung out percussion flutters in the back as subtle time stretch is applied giving this a trippy and mind melting feel. Slam pull back on the reigns ever so slightly going into the break as yet more subtle builds give tension before firing back with the hypnotic feel essence of the track

Soma400 signals the start of the countdown to the latest Slam album and also shows why they have been in electronic music for over 20 years.

We welcome Chus &amp; Ceballos to the Tronic family with &#8220;La Colombiana&#8221;, a true testament to their evolved sound that boasts the tribal overtones you&#8217;ve come to expect alongside an optimistic bassline and a grinding rhythm section.&nbsp; However, it&#8217;s the dominating chords that truly shine here and propel the affair to epic proportions. 
 The always-hot Matt Sassari offers a dubbed-out rendition complete with a stomping kick and vocal effect treatment, while the original&#8217;s chords have been retained and his own persistent stabs add the customized touch.

"Just because you call your song "Lost in Detroit" doesn't mean you're necessarily from Detroit. That's the case here, though, and I'll admit I wouldn't have guessed without looking it up. That track, first up on this excellent EP, is Delano Smith's, and it's got enough of a basic fuzzy quality—that filmy kind of filtering that gives things a shade of static, a purposeful analog feel—that it could have come from just about anywhere that sort of thing is in vogue, which is probably just about anywhere house reigns supreme. But that alien zone is increasingly crowded, and Smith's touches of stick percussion kick it up a couple places. Smith's reworking of Gavin Herlihy's "Krypton Faktor" is similarly cool, but here the beat carries a lot more tonnage. The drums are fiercely articulated and a big synth riff joins two minutes in just to amp things up for real. Herlihy's original "Krypton Faktor" is different again: lengthy, ruminative, spooky in texture without being a forbidding listen. The smoky cloudy organ effect that provides the hook draws you to it." (Resident Advisor)


Plain and Simple TV

What does it sound like? 
A little slice of quality, deep but not dull tech courtesy of US producer Delano Smith and Briton Gavin Herlihy. The EP is dominated by its title track thanks to an additional remix, but does come with a well worth buying B-side. Starting with the A though things are comparable to Siesta's hey day and the tougher, more electro edges of the old West Coast sound, meaning driving but groovy basslines and inviting percussion abounds, while there's also an obvious techno zeitgeist in the brew too. Smith's own remix reduces the stabbed tempo and opts for a cosmic disco workout that's no less reliant on the low end than its predecessor was. Then there's Lost In Detroit, which falls somewhere in between the mechanical soul of said city's newcomers and Stacey Pullen's smooth techy stylings, capped off with a guy saying something hypnotic. Just don't ask us what it's got to do with the 1980s TV series.

Where would I dance to it? 
Anywhere and everywhere, particularly after Villalobos apparently dropped both original and remix when Herlihy passed him a copy at a gig in Leeds.

What highlights can I expect to hear? 
For us Lost In Detroit is the winner, as is anything that boasts such rhythm. Dark, dirty, and with all the hallmarks of classic tech house this is one all sides of the four four camp can get down to.

Why should I pay for it? 
As ever it's a question of morality.

To accompany this season of pressing your nose up against rain streaked glass, looking out at the weather as it approaches near Ark conditions, Lucidflow have a little aural duvet to wrap yourself up in. Klartraum have some Indian Spirit to compensate for this lack of Indian Summer. For those who are not well versed in the Lucidflow head honchos work, this EP---containing four tasty morsels---is a perfect introduction to the Berlin based duo’s deep and textured works.

Looming ominously on the horizon, like an oncoming monsoon, Indian Spirit’s harmonic wind chimes blow over billowing low end textures, with wisps of electronic piano drifting across the moody grey atmosphere.

Rolling in just shy of a mammoth twelve minutes, The Void takes its time in unfurling its secrets onto you; melancholic pads providing a fabric for meandering keyboard solos to weave through, gradually letting the bassline rise in emphasis from melancholia into optimism.

Keeping in this soundtracky vein, Aaron’s string plucked motifs are accompanied by the meditative tones of Stephen H. Wolinsky, guiding and teaching as you shimmy and weave in your own little bubbles.

Every family has a black sheep and Spiral Dynamics is the fervent baa-monster in this little flock. More Japan than India, Ryuchi Sakamoto-esque detuned Shamisen twangs play around a bubbling percussive backdrop. This particular black sheep deserves an extra special cuddle from you, so pay it the attention it deserves.

Those Autumnal blues won’t be going anywhere soon, but LF037 certainly provides the soundtrack to curl up into some introspective and reflective moments in life. Get the heating on and enjoy.
