With its roots firmly in the relentless techno of the '90s, Absence of Facts presents modern analog-inspired tracks that have been handcrafted and carefully selected in Helsinki, Finland.

With more than 22 years in the business, Absence of Facts head honcho Orion joins another undeniable trendsetter and tastemaker, long-term techno heavyweight Cari Lekebusch. With Helsinki meeting Stockholm, the result is a groovy, hypnotic two-tracker.

“Absence” is a growing and banging yet funky, squelching piece of uncompromised techno while “Presence” is for those deep, trippy moments in the early morning hours.

To feel the future is to feel the fall into time.

Like a kind of transcendental whiplash, the past leans in to furnish the present with a set of concrete forms and withering terms, whilst the halo of possibility on the crown of the moment makes speculation a speed-test for computing what comes next. As a vessel for abstract dynamics, the human organism knows what it is to be dizzy, to feel vertigo as a matter of being contained by our experience of space and time.

For the fourth instalment in Tresor's 'Kern' mix series, DJ Stingray presents a device for decoding time in all directions, a sonic prism that refracts our senses into auxiliary components of a total future-rush.

With a far-reaching selection that has been worked into his own unique form, DJ Stingray wraps our vertigo around a gritty pneumatic bump with high-velocity swing. His mixing style, prepared for hostile engagements as it is, throttles techno into counter-gravity forces. Wading through a specialised cross-section of Detroit's own dance-floor contagions as well as the contaminated feedback signals from across the global aqua plains, the mix can be summed up in just one word: hectic.

Raw, caustic, synthetic rhythm-code pumps frenzy itself through a cascading geothermal fog. Never giving away the cryptographic keys, DJ Stingray works you harder than your heart, adapting your biology to a fractal timeline of viscous systems.

Discovery, or uncovering, has to do with what already exists actually or virtually; it is therefore certain to happen sooner or later with enough sweat in the club. And as Kern Volume 4 attests to, DJ Stingray has the access codes and the stealth sense to make a place of a space, and to let it fall into time.

Accompanying the mix is a set of two records. The leading manoeuvre comes from the collaborative efforts of DJ Stingray and Heinrich Mueller under the name NRSB-11. Seven more pieces of the covert assault make up the release.

Fresh from her 'Raw Silk Uncut Wood' LP for Latency, Laurel Halo switches focus directly to the dance floor on this new collaborative EP with Livity Sound regular Hodge. The culmination of a series of recording sessions in Berlin, the pair have produced a record that burns with the energy and dynamics their respective DJ sets are known for, rounding out the year for the label in style.

For its fifth release Planet Euphorique puts forward Australian-born, London-based Nite Fleit's latest release, Overcast. Her second record, Overcast is a teeth-baring soundscape guided by commanding, rhythmic spells. The record’s acidic slaps and punishing bass lines are uncompromising, recalling her darkly transcendental DJ sets. Overcast’s masterful doom is punctuated with enigmatic sparks throughout–the light beckoning listeners into the darkness and onto the dance floor.

At midnight, on March 13th 1991, a basement door opened at Leipziger Strasse 126, Berlin. Through this door, many passed, on their way to defining new terrains in electronic music. There they found a dance floor in the vaults of a closed-down department store, with a unique sound bound to dense fog, building night after night a history that was also a vision of the future. 

This history has seen in Jeff Mills’ first sets on three turntables, Underground Resistance's first live appearances in Europe, grandiose Tresor Park parties, to various chapters of the Loveparade with Sven Väth in the 90s and since then countless generation-spanning parties. These moments represent the highlights of infinite personal clubbing experiences. It is the manifestation of the Berlin spirit, emerging from its considerable strife. This history is not without its complications - from temporary closure by the authorities and several raids in the early years to closure and demolition of the old location in 2005. What followed was years of wandering in exile and, finally, resurrection in the new home in Kraftwerk Berlin.

These stories, conversations and shared experiences within our walls forge a resilience that drives towards a shared ideal, the Tresor sound: community, resistance, and the world to come. This was observed in the newly re-unified German youth, who danced and celebrated together from the club’s inception, and into the present day through ongoing community work in Detroit. 

Tresor Records was founded in the same year and began to serve as a platform for exporting the new sounds associated with Tresor all around the world. Emergent musicians from Michigan, such as Juan Atkins, Underground Resistance and Drexciya, were pivotal in shaping these early years. Their visits to Berlin would kick-start dialogue between the youth movement in Europe and these musicians. This story is one of friendship and community-building, inextricably linked with cities like Detroit, Birmingham or Edinburgh, where like-minded friends built something truly special, where revelatory rhythms soundtrack decaying industry in corrupted metropoles. 

Tresor Records has been the fertile soil for dozens upon dozens of creative minds, from the very luminaries of the scene who developed electronic music over the last three decades through to contemporary protagonists who are currently defining the sound of the future -  A more than 300 strong catalogue displays an unmistakable identity - the Tresor spirit.

To those that have danced before, and to those that will dance in the future: the light at the end of the long Tresor tunnel is a signal. A flicker amidst the fog. This is our future. This is our place.
