Who controls the mind controls the body. 
After three years of experimentation in isolation, Dopplereffekt have emerged with Neurotelepathy, an oracular narrative of cerebral entanglement and advancement. The sleek mathematical models of 2017’s Cellular Automata have evolved into these synaptic interpretations, transferences and modifications, rejecting binary expectations to meditate on the possibilities and pitfalls of what’s to come. With their second LP and fifth release in total on Leisure System, the duo of Rudolf Klorzeiger and To-Nhan have themselves achieved a near- telepathic capacity for collaborative thought and mechanical construction. They continue to use live appearances to present experimental trials of theoretical models, and that effort is heard in the sizzle and swing of the percussive highlights here, programmed with a serious depth and wriggle that reflect both an extension of and return to form. Considerations of the machine-human interface, neurological realities and physical probabilities dominate. But these tracks are economical and precise, glittering with emotional depth and cinematic effects. The album’s core, a three-act movement of symphonic uncertainty and revelation, marks one of the pair’s most evocative compositions in a career full of them.Territory is monitored, traced and scanned, resulting in unexpected modulations. Underlying systems are questioned, competing mindsets animated and mutated: brain-to-brain, brain-to-machine and beyond. Neurotelepathy processes these transformative mental, psychological and transgenerational states both traumatic and triumphant.

DifferentSound invites Dopplereffekt [live] / Podcast #245

Earth-shattering techno and intricate textures make up the delicate yet impactful sound of Alienata. The Spanish-born, Berlin-based artist is a self-described “sound obsessive” whose influences span anything from electro, ACID, dub, IDM, dark disco, techno, industrial atmospheres, and strains of sounds from both Detroit and Chicago. As founder of Discos Atónicos, she’s been able to platform and materialise her own influences, sharing music and making a mark.

With an approach to music that often leans towards alternative shades of techno, adding a blend of acid, electro, and old-school vibes, to traditional hard-hitting aspects, Alienata straddles high-calibre artistry, reminding us that techno can be complex, as well as wonderful loud and unignorable - and it's the nuance, and attention to detail, that often makes the most impact.

Ahead of Alienata’s return to the club this weekend (2nd-3rd December), she swoops in for the next edition of our mix series. Episode 027 is a breath of fresh air. That being said, it's a journey that is already taking us mentally into the dark, comforting, audio sanctuary that is our own Room 2 – where you’ll find Alienata smashing out her signature style for a special B2B set with Neighbourhood founder and club regular Tasha during the Saturday night section of our next Continuum.

Strap in for a delightfully alienating journey. Warming, hypnotic techno, a driving industrial tone, and dark, obscure elements.

027 - Alienata - fabric podcast

Nez is a dj of all things techno/electro/acid/jungle and everything in between and has been djing regularly around the Irish underground electronic music scene since 1998. Refusing to be pigeonholed to anyone one scene has led Nez to sharing stages and warming up for the likes of Mala, Surgeon, Hudson Mowhawke, Kyle Hall, Supa DJ Dimitry from Deelite, DJ Deep, DJ Pete, Regis, Skream & Benga, Trevino, Marcel Dettmann, Trevino, Daniel Bell, Perc, Egyptian Lover, DJ Funk, Source Direct, Legowelt, Radioactive Man, Roy Davis Junior, Lil Louis, Blawan, Neil Landstrumm to name a small few. He's held down many residencies over the years and played around all around Europe which culminated in a Boiler Room set at AVA Festival in 2018. Currently he's running the Computer Controlled label and is part of the techno collective Coda.

Which artist has influenced you the most?  

- I'd have to say Dave Clarke.  He was the man that introduced me to so much great artists when I started getting into dance music.  From the banging European techno to Chicago house, deeper Detroit Techno and of course electro he was a major influence on my taste.  I still listen to both the Electro Boogie compilations regularly, two of the best electro mixes.

Which artists/labels is more relevant to you now? 

- Could be here all day listing people, the electro scene is healthier than ever at the mo, but off the top of my head people like Client 03, Sound Synthesis, iNFO, Ben Pest, DMX Krew, Moy, Umwelt, ERP, Serge Geyzel, Zeta Reticula and have all been releasing buy on sight records.

At midnight, on March 13th 1991, a basement door opened at Leipziger Strasse 126, Berlin. Through this door, many passed, on their way to defining new terrains in electronic music. There they found a dance floor in the vaults of a closed-down department store, with a unique sound bound to dense fog, building night after night a history that was also a vision of the future. 

This history has seen in Jeff Mills’ first sets on three turntables, Underground Resistance's first live appearances in Europe, grandiose Tresor Park parties, to various chapters of the Loveparade with Sven Väth in the 90s and since then countless generation-spanning parties. These moments represent the highlights of infinite personal clubbing experiences. It is the manifestation of the Berlin spirit, emerging from its considerable strife. This history is not without its complications - from temporary closure by the authorities and several raids in the early years to closure and demolition of the old location in 2005. What followed was years of wandering in exile and, finally, resurrection in the new home in Kraftwerk Berlin.

These stories, conversations and shared experiences within our walls forge a resilience that drives towards a shared ideal, the Tresor sound: community, resistance, and the world to come. This was observed in the newly re-unified German youth, who danced and celebrated together from the club’s inception, and into the present day through ongoing community work in Detroit. 

Tresor Records was founded in the same year and began to serve as a platform for exporting the new sounds associated with Tresor all around the world. Emergent musicians from Michigan, such as Juan Atkins, Underground Resistance and Drexciya, were pivotal in shaping these early years. Their visits to Berlin would kick-start dialogue between the youth movement in Europe and these musicians. This story is one of friendship and community-building, inextricably linked with cities like Detroit, Birmingham or Edinburgh, where like-minded friends built something truly special, where revelatory rhythms soundtrack decaying industry in corrupted metropoles. 

Tresor Records has been the fertile soil for dozens upon dozens of creative minds, from the very luminaries of the scene who developed electronic music over the last three decades through to contemporary protagonists who are currently defining the sound of the future -  A more than 300 strong catalogue displays an unmistakable identity - the Tresor spirit.

To those that have danced before, and to those that will dance in the future: the light at the end of the long Tresor tunnel is a signal. A flicker amidst the fog. This is our future. This is our place.
