For Fiedel the three main musical influences are Electro/early Hip-Hop, Acid house and the Hard Wax record store in Berlin Kreuzberg. He started to DJ publicly in the mid 90s on Monday’s at a club called Subversiv, which then has been a constant in Berlin’s underground techno scene. Fiedel has demonstrably been one of the first DJ’s to play Electro in this context. Besides he played serious techno from Carl Craig, Jeff Mills, the Burden Brothers, Mathew Johnson, Monolake, Soundhack and many others. When the moment is right, he also plays Hi-NRG. As he puts hit himself : Music should not be pigeonholed. In 1996 & 1997 he released two EP’s on MMM with Errorsmith. Especially their track ‘Donna’ is considered a much played techno classic. Apart from his residency at the legendary Berghain/Panorama Bar, we can say one thing about Fiedel : he is no techno or house stereotype pattern, that you can put randomly on a every evening or club. He is lead by his history, the history of the music and the feeling of the moment to build something new and to capture this very moment. Let it be the straight dark techno of today, banging acid of the 80’s or an electro funk record, Fiedel surprises. He undermines and overrides expectations and refrains to limit the music for any reason. He lets the music speak for itself, through himself. Enjoy !

FJAAK, the Berlin-based trio of hardware heads, have been constantly making a name for themselves over the last half a decade. Having grown up together in Spandau on the outskirts of Berlin, Felix Wagner, Aaron Röbig and Kevin Kozicki began quite early to create all different kinds of music before ending up taking on the city’s heritage – techno – to make it their own. It was back then in 2009 at ‘Gewerbe 15’, their 50 qm shared  at studio, where they started to develop their very own distinct sound.
The trio  first cut their teeth in the electronic music scene by organizing illegal raves in and around Berlin, which eventually led them to run their own techno series – Machine Vibes. Based on all hardware setups and vinyl only sets, the series took them not only to clubs beyond the German capital’s borders but all over Europe, steadily growing their reputation and fanbase.
2014 marked the turning point of FJAAK’s career, when 50Weapons bosses Modeselektor decided to take the young trio under their wings. The start of a promising collaboration which saw them release  five critically acclaimed EPs on the label within one and a half years, whilst incessantly travelling the world.
Despite their young age FJAAK have played over 200 live shows, spreading their elaborate analogue sound all around the globe. From Los Angeles to Beijing, from SXSW back to Berghain, FJAAK were there to deliver what has become their trademark: raw, naturally crafted techno!
Their distinctive sound and signature hands-on mentality, as properly captured in their “Against The Clock” feature for FACT Magazine, were reasons enough for BBC Radio 1’s B.Traits to name the trio one of her Future 12 Artists. Over the years the young trio has gained an impressive experience and routine and has much more that is yet to come...
Now, as the concept of techno albums has become widely appreciated, FJAAK  released their self-titled debut full length on 20 January on Modeselektor’s main imprint Monkeytown Records. FJAAK combines the energetic peak- time sound of the trio’s acclaimed Techno singles like “Unten / Oben” with sophisticated breakbeat arrangements and atmospherically dense Ambient textures.

Henning Baer [ Grounded Theory / K209 ]

Henning Baer is a man on a mission who’s slowly been building his name in Berlin and beyond.  As one half of the team behind the Grounded Theory Berlin project, now up to the 14th party, they’ve hosted names such as Marcel Dettmann, Ben Klock, Function, Redshape, Traversable Wormhole, Perc, Pattern Repeat, Terence Fixmer to name a few.

Grounded Theory, not content with being just a party, is also a booking agency and soon to be label. Looking after Milton Bradley, Subjected & Moerbeck (Vault Series), Fanon Flowers, Sawlin and Sawf, it’s easy to see that Henning is building an ever-expanding stable of young talent, that will shape the face of techno for years to come.

As a DJ, he’s a regular around his hometown of Berlin. On top of his Grounded Theory parties he can be found playing his trade at the legendary Tresor, Arenaclub and Suicide Circus, as well as an increasing number of appearances around Europe. His no compromise underground techno has been destroying dancefloors at every turn.

It was only a matter of time before Henning took the next logical step into production. Setting up the K209 label, in 2011, with Milton Bradley and dropping the first release in March. He followed it up with his first solo release on the label in September. He’s since had tracks snapped up by Adam X’s Sonic Groove label.

After the Tea And Techno blog named Henning in their ‘Ones To Watch For 2012’ list, all the signs are pointing to a very bright future for this exciting prospect.

Elad Magdasi has long been entrenched in the rave scene, first and foremost, as a dancer. It is precisely this edge which can be felt in the emotional fabric he weaves into his productions. His works are wide-ranged and diverse, hailing from a true rave spirit. He deftly combines acid-line treatment with his his unique melodic point of view. After moving from Tel Aviv to Berlin in 2013, Elad evolved and ended up founding his own label Front Left Records. The label is a collective of friends who dance together and celebrate techno weekly. All the releases come from artists who share the front left corner of a certain well known institution. When Elad is in the booth, his sets combine both modern and old techno, keeping the rhythm and synthesizers full throttle at all times. You can find Elad playing around his home town, in venues like Berghain, Tresor, ://about blank & more.

At midnight, on March 13th 1991, a basement door opened at Leipziger Strasse 126, Berlin. Through this door, many passed, on their way to defining new terrains in electronic music. There they found a dance floor in the vaults of a closed-down department store, with a unique sound bound to dense fog, building night after night a history that was also a vision of the future. 

This history has seen in Jeff Mills’ first sets on three turntables, Underground Resistance's first live appearances in Europe, grandiose Tresor Park parties, to various chapters of the Loveparade with Sven Väth in the 90s and since then countless generation-spanning parties. These moments represent the highlights of infinite personal clubbing experiences. It is the manifestation of the Berlin spirit, emerging from its considerable strife. This history is not without its complications - from temporary closure by the authorities and several raids in the early years to closure and demolition of the old location in 2005. What followed was years of wandering in exile and, finally, resurrection in the new home in Kraftwerk Berlin.

These stories, conversations and shared experiences within our walls forge a resilience that drives towards a shared ideal, the Tresor sound: community, resistance, and the world to come. This was observed in the newly re-unified German youth, who danced and celebrated together from the club’s inception, and into the present day through ongoing community work in Detroit. 

Tresor Records was founded in the same year and began to serve as a platform for exporting the new sounds associated with Tresor all around the world. Emergent musicians from Michigan, such as Juan Atkins, Underground Resistance and Drexciya, were pivotal in shaping these early years. Their visits to Berlin would kick-start dialogue between the youth movement in Europe and these musicians. This story is one of friendship and community-building, inextricably linked with cities like Detroit, Birmingham or Edinburgh, where like-minded friends built something truly special, where revelatory rhythms soundtrack decaying industry in corrupted metropoles. 

Tresor Records has been the fertile soil for dozens upon dozens of creative minds, from the very luminaries of the scene who developed electronic music over the last three decades through to contemporary protagonists who are currently defining the sound of the future -  A more than 300 strong catalogue displays an unmistakable identity - the Tresor spirit.

To those that have danced before, and to those that will dance in the future: the light at the end of the long Tresor tunnel is a signal. A flicker amidst the fog. This is our future. This is our place.
