Cult sensation Gloria Ann Taylor, who in the early 1970s laid the groundwork for much of disco, R&B, and modern soul as we know it, sees her posthumous release 'Be Worthy' reimagined by renowned producers Flying Mojito Bros into a euphoric, gospel-piano-house-esque West Coast disco cruiser.

"What an honor it is to have been invited to remix the work of such an important and innovative heritage artist" say the duo. "We wish we'd have had the opportunity to chat with and learn from Gloria herself. This remix is our small contribution and dedication to a towering musical legacy of talent, guts and pioneering genre-crossing. Viva Gloria!"

The record looks as good as it sounds too, with Flying Mojito Bros art-directing a colorful and cosmic reimagining of the original cover via illustration wizard Nick Potts, reflecting the bros’ transplantation of Gloria's soul diva spirit into their own southwestern desertscape dreamworld.

One of my favorite songs from the homie Andy Noble and his King's Go Forth project (RIP).  These guys were amazing and this OG track still gets spins! For this edit though, I slowed the tempo down to a more open format-friendly speed, added an instrumental intro & drum break, and overall rearranged for fun times. Hope you enjoy!

In times of national demise, speaking historically,
the mulch of crumpled dream and culture is a laboratory,
that breeds outrageous saviours and monsters without warning; 
Cromwell, Hitler, Joseph Stalin, Jeremy Corbyn – 
emerging from a broken world to find a hole they can fill,
cometh the moment; cometh the Mandrill.

This greed and gore emporium is not how life was meant to be,
with franchises and fads reheated from a previous century,
and nothing new, a neutered future on the retro record deck,
that’s stuck and endlessly repeating in a firebombed discotheque. 
Your TV’s in a coma and you can’t get it to wake up.
What you need is a dictatorial baboon in makeup.

Overstated, aggravated and horrifically mutated,
here to see that you’re berated. What’s the last thing you created?
All those logos on your raiment, brand-name badges of enslavement,
drip-fed passive entertainment. Was this your intended statement?
When you have nowhere left to stand you'll have to take one.
If there’s no culture in the land then you must make one. 
Psychopathic, charismatic, I could go on but don’t need to:
as the higher primate it’s my long-awaited fate to lead you.
You have no choice but me, so please do not suggest so.

The light of burning corporations will repaint the sky in grenadine. 
There’ll be billions of banners and Art Nouveau butterfly bombers like this world has never seen before. 
We’ll march on ugliness and stupidity. 
We’ll make loveliness compulsory.

And the roar of our orchestra engines will soar evermore in a glorious annihilating symphony, for the tyranny of beauty is our God-given duty. 
Every child at birth is to be issued with a ukulele, 
given their own flag and granted absolute and utter sovereignty, 
and so long as it’s coloured in nicely and has an old woman on, make their own currency. And we’ll turn every urban address into a dripping Rousseau wilderness, and we’ll keep advancing until there’s nobody not dancing.

We’ll put politics in the pillory,
put the art back in artillery.
We can weaponise wonder
and our voice shall be as thunder.

From times of national demise arise new apes like me, 
with, in our leopard-scaring eyes, manifest destiny. 
I’ll lead you to a fluorescent utopia if you’ll let me: 
love me, worship me, obey me – but never pet me. 
If we can’t build a future then we’ll be its human landfill. So…

FULL BIOGRAPHY:
With a love for DJing that began in grade school when using two tape decks to spin basement parties, TREW’s main aim is to weave a common thread through seemingly disparate genres. Drawing inspiration from the early 1980s NYC art/music world, he believes no genre is off limits, no collaboration too outlandish. Honing his chops East Cost Rave & Hip-Hop scenes (Baltimore/DC), it was Chicago’s wealth of musical and architectural history that pulled him westward. “Like most kids back then, I thought ‘Percolator’ was a Baltimore Club track. Once I found out the truth I knew this is where I was meant to be!” he exclaims. Soon after, he quit his corporate job, cashed in the 401k, and invested his life into music.

Since landing in the Windy City, TREW has performed or held residencies all across Chicagoland.  Played stages at West Fest, Spring Awakening, Do Division, Taste of Randolph, and North Coast Music Festival. And he has been lucky enough to perform with artists like Snoop Dogg, Mayer Hawthorne, People Under The Stairs, Keys N Krates, Nightmares On Wax, Mint Condition, Bone Thugs N Harmony, Jeremiah Jae, Bobbito, House of Pain, Van Hunt, Jneiro Jarel, Devin the Dude, Bonobo, Cut Chemist, Quantic, Currensy, Afrika Bambaataa, MF Doom, Mos Def, and dozens more.

While not DJing he co-owns Ground Lift Media - a  digital marketing + brand strategy company, is 1/2 of the DJ/Production duo Altered Tapes, owns and operates Heat Rock Records, and is deep into vinyl excavation having amassed thousands of rare Soul, Funk, Disco, & Jazz records. A hobby/obsession he shares with the world via his Miyagi Records Shop.
