Solid Grooves has built a strong following of loyal fans over the years. Starting out as an event series, the London based brand has since achieved global success including a prevalent Ibiza residency last year. Launching as a label in 2015, it wasn’t long before Solid Grooves Records topped Beatport’s overall charts with Wade’s remix of Dennis Cruz ‘See Line’ and cemented its reputation as an infallible imprint, releasing music from names such as Kuo Climax, ONNO, David Pher and Brett Gould.

Dennis Cruz leads the way with ‘Fake’, a vocal focused track with throbbing bass, chopped up samples and infectious percussive components before Franz Costa’s ‘Kate’ blends a medley of intricate rhythmic elements for a trippy low-slung production.

The label co-founders are up next, with Michael Bibi unleashing a roaring low-end in ‘Devil’s Candy’ whilst a spoken word sample operates through, making way for PAWSA’s ‘Taking Over’ – an atmospheric house track geared for powerful subs featuring dub inspired stabs and sharp hats. Reelow then concludes the package, demonstrating his signature style with a cacophony of percussion and mesmerizing effects.

The groove-laden three-track release represents a clear departure from the darker techno
sound of TRICK’s maiden release ‘Watch What Ya Doing’ - further demonstrating Topping’s
versatility as a producer. Kicking off proceedings, the EP’s title track is underpinned by an
infectious vocal sample and the funkiest of beats. While over on the B-side, ‘Let Wa Gan’ is a
darker, moodier number and ‘Galaxy’, featuring the scintillating vocals of Liset Alea, is a
celestial melodic stomper. The collaboration with Liset came about after Topping heard her
vocals on Alex Kid’s ‘Don’t Hide It’. The track quickly became a staple in his sets and he
made the decision to reach out to the Cuban-born singer shortly after.

The third track is a remix of XINGU, a track released last year by veteran San Francisco producer JX-216 (formerly known as Milkplant). Stepping up to the remix is Slam, the Glaswegian duo at the helm of the notorious Soma records and two of the most established producers in the history of the genre. Stamping their mark firmly on the track, the Slam delivers a true to form thunderous techno epic that’s guaranteed to command the most formidable of dancefloors.

Play It Say It look to Malaga born DJ and producer Cuartero for their next serving of dance floor dynamite.

Cuartero long broke out of the confines of his small home island, and is now a well recognised name on the global dance scene. He's as likely to be headlining in Ibiza as he is playing somewhere in Chile or returning to regular festivals like BPM. He's released his music on key contemporary tech house labels like Hot Creations, ViVa Music and Moon Harbour as well as his own CUARTEROCONCEPT, and it is fresh, forward looking stuff that breaks from the usual confines of the genre.

He kicks off here with the brilliantly busy and bristling ‘Micromaya,’ a turbo-charged tech cut with driving drums and chopped up vocal samples. It’s full of energy and cannot fail to blow up the floor. The equally high tempo ‘Pa Chu’ then hits hard with big rubbery kicks, vocals that pan around the mix in disorientating fashion and techno leaning percussion. It’s pure, high grade dancing music, make no mistake.

The goodness continues on ‘Aire Libre’, which has more slick studio techniques chopping up vocals and deft little samples into an ever evolving patchwork of sounds that keep you on your toes. Spinning hi hats and choppy chords are brilliantly restless and impossible to resist. Last of all, the excellent ‘Part of the Beautiful’ is more spaced out, with lush chords bring a dreamy feel as the drums race along and sci-fi sounds peel off the high speed grooves.

This is first class, inventive house music squarely aimed at the dance floor.

A six-track release, ‘Fun Is Fun’ opens with the infectious, synth-driven title track, with a dub version and ‘Mamacita version’ also making it onto the record. Next up, ‘Dancefloor Anarchy’ is a similarly slick cut, while ‘Kill Your Friends’ is 140bpm and harnesses a killer bassline and unnerving scream sample to devastating effect.  

“The title track ‘Fun Is Fun’ is a heavy bassline track, meant as a provocative poem, or as a joke you tell your friends who DJ,” Kessler explains. “When I did this track I was smiling because it’s my message not to take yourself too serious in this business. I think that's a big problem all over this scene.”

Trick is an acclaimed dance music label and event brand owned and curated by global dance music icon, Patrick Topping.

The Newcastle native launched Trick in 2019 as a platform to spot and champion emerging artists, both in the studio and behind the decks. Since then, Trick has become one of the scene's most popular underground dance music event brands and record labels, launching the careers of some of the UK's biggest ticket-sellers and creating a cult fan following along the way.

As a record label, Trick is set to his 100 releases in 2024 and has given an outlet to many new signings who have since become some of the fastest-rising stars in the UK, such as Ben Hemsley, Hannah Laing and Ewan McVicar, who delivered platinum-certified “Tell Me Something Good” along the way. 

Trick's loyal fanbase has become one of the most passionate communities in dance music, with fans sporting Trick's signature lightning bolt on merchandise and tattoos at events throughout the UK and beyond. From completing a 9-date residency in 2022 at Ibiza's legendary DC10, to hosting a stage at EDC Orlando 2022, to attracting 10,000 ravers to The Warehouse Project in Manchester and bringing thousands to an Australian Debut in Melbourne in 2023. Then there is the Trick Weekenders, Budapest in 2022 and Tenerife in 2023. These events both saw 2,500 Trick Troops holiday and party together abroad, with Trick Tenerife this year set to double in size.

In 2024 Patrick is set to give back to his roots, bringing legions of fans to his hometown of Newcastle this summer 2024 with the launch of Trick Fest. Trick will also return to Ibiza, hosting a four-date residency in Hï’s Theatre on Wednesdays.
