Inspired by the Marriage Equality Referendum that took place in Ireland on May 22nd and meeting fans invested in the YES Campaign #YesEquality, HAWK wanted to encourage people to vote on this important issue and released ‘Glass’, accompanied with a rainbow coloured kaleidoscopic video, to raise awareness and show solidarity with the cause.  

‘Glass’ has a distinct ethereal quality to it, with lead singer Julie’s haunting vocals juxtaposed against post-rock styled drums and stripped back guitars, creating an ambience akin to COCTEAU TWINS melded with KATE BUSH via DAUGHTER.  With a number of Irish artists including HOZIER, VILLAGERS’ Conor O’brien and SOAK pledging their support or dedicating tracks to boost awareness of the campaign for marriage equality, it was HAWK’S ‘Glass’ that featured most prominently on UK Music and LGBT blogs.  HAWK were also lauded by Ireland’s Hot Press magazine with lead singer Julie shown as an example of the young, Irish creatives going home to make their voices heard.

HAWK are Julie Hawk (Vocals), Matthew Harris (guitar), Chris Handsley (bass) and Sam Campbell (drums). "O.T.O.T.W." is the debut single by Toronto-based artist James Wyatt Crosby.

The songwriter and multi-instrumentalist makes catchy, grand-scale dreampop songs with a lo-fi DIY ethos. Crosby purposely printed effects to tape during the initial tracking of O.T.O.T.W., adding an indelible atmospheric wash to the mix. "There's also an autoharp in the recording which has a really sweet strummy sound and glues the whole song together," he adds.

Crosby's vocals are pitched up slightly, adding a sweet, dreamy edge to the track. The song's lyrics, delivered over a happy melody and lush dreampop arrangements, drift back and forth between bliss and melancholy.

"I wanted to make a song that explains the feeling of being in a really good place while knowing that it's fleeting and things will ultimately change," explains Crosby. "I was listening to The Smiths and Talking Heads a lot when I was writing and recording it. I feel those bands do a good job of making songs that are simultaneously happy and sad, and that's kind of what I was going for."
