I compose early in the morning, sometimes before the sun rises.  The first thing I do, is to feel the keys and the tones I want to explore.  Then I close my eyes, and let my thoughts flow through a maze of ideas. If I am lucky, a song is born.  Most of the time though, my eyes are open and hope I find a song!
