This single from Tricky's acclaimed album 'False Idols' is a dark and emotional reworking of album favourite 'Is That Your Life' featuring main album vocal collaborator Francesca Belmonte. The idea to remix the track came about after seeing the first cut of the video he had directed. 

"I wanted something moodier to fit the vibe of the video, so we went in with our friend Tony Ra who reworked the track specifically around what we had created visually" says Tricky.

ABOUT:

Non-exist nations’ folklore or else tango, cabaret, circus, pop songs, kitchen beatbox or freakfolk.

The debut album of the project "Dva" is called “Fonók” (it is the name of spinners in Hungarian; however, for "Dva" it means “Sounds” in the language of their own) and it is very original and exceptional, both with its concept « hide
as well as non-exist nations poetics and sound which is novel and magnificent. Except for the group “Dva”, it was namely Berliner Jayrope who assisted significantly in the final above standard sound. The album includes fifteen songs of legendary non-existent bands in non-existent world languages put together during travels through the kitchen. Each nonexistent region has its own representative on the album; each nonexistent language has its own translation. Sincere and exacting ethnographic work paid dividends…


Attic Equipment in the cottage located in a small village in the north of the Czech Republic was humble during the album’s recording; however, it influenced the album sound fatally. Disabled broadcast audio mixer Studer and AKG microphones from 1948. “When you set bounds, paradoxically, then it is much easier to work in the time of unlimited software possibilities”. The band says. The recording was assisted by a very experienced broadcast technician – Bára’s dad – here with a solder, here with a skillet. On their album, Dva chose to cooperate with a well-known Berlin musician and producer Jayrope who is no novice in the field of music production. He collaborated with artists such as Arto Lindsay, Rechenzentrum or Atari Teenage Riot, he himself played in many projects and bands. They met in 2007, how else than through Myspace. Immediately and willingly, he agreed with the offer of a one-month stay in the mountains. Continuous supply of toasts spread with lard, goat’s milk and Szeged goulash only helped to keep “folkloric” spirit of the whole album. Besides own music, also dachshund named Ferda, common buzzards, ever-present chirp of grasshoppers, gherkin conservation and amplifier on the column in the middle of the wood can be heard from several places. The album was also influenced by a partial eclipse of the moon.

Final mix and mastering were performed in the studio of sound engineer Mark Bihler, Mute records, in the centre of Berlin, again on analog tape. Using old technologies and the contribution of Jayrope producing skills, the album keeps homely atmosphere of former records of Dva “principally, we do not distinguish between analog and digital. In records, we enjoy sounds which we produce by “analog” way (voices, shorts) more and as for digital “effects” we like loops and reversals”, by thus, Fonók has gone much further in the field of sound richness and it has given space for lovely surprising designers´ ideas.

Elektro Guzzi combine club music and live performance to a unique, energetic mixture. They overcome the rigid boundary of analog versus digital, unifying the human being with his machines in an unprecedented way and surprising the listener with their innovative productions. Sónar, Roskilde, Melt!, C/O Pop or Mutek are just a few stations among others, where Elektro Guzzi fascinated with their dynamic live show, without the use of computers or loops.

With their new EP „Parade“, the first release on German label Denovali, Elektro Guzzi broaden their trinity of drums, bass and e-guitar. With implementing trombones as extra oscillators, dissociating them from their conventional use, the trombones become part of the human-machine-universe and are used as an additional sound source in order to modulate and explore its variety live on the stage.

The four tracks emerged from commissioned work for the Artacts Festival for Jazz and Improvised Music. They move along familiar paths, but also show some new, unusual dimensions of Elektro Guzzi. Opener „Element“ starts gently, bringing the trombones slowly into appearance, culminating in that driving groove, which whips the melancholic sound of the track. Title track „Parade“ reveals the new source of inspiration of the Vienna-based trio. From Haitian Rara music, through New Orleans brass bands to Basic Channel dub, Elektro Guzzi create rhythms beyond four-to-floor, with that special, warm vibe, which remains in the ear of the listener.

Recording, mixing and sound design results from a collaboration with sound enthusiast Nik Hummer. The „Parade“-EP hypnotizes the listener with its diversity of sounds, with floating and dubby rhythms, situated in a stunning sound aesthetic, in which the feeling of its live performance is conserved.

Info: After one and a half decade and more than 400 releases, Compost Records bundles some of their finest tunes as Various Artists digital download compilation albums. The variety and full spectrum of Compost’s repertoire has never or rarely been presented in form of a musical genre compilation. These releases will be compiled or DJ-mixed by Compost’s artists and are available as digital downloads, except in some rare cases very very limited as 500 CDs.

Ever since the beginning of electronic music the voice was considered an instrument that shouldn’t be forgotten. So when everybody considered the beats and the bass as the King, there was still love for vocals. Sometimes to create an atmosphere of tribalism with its own mantras, sometimes as a work of poetry. But always present.

From the depths of the Compost vaults vocal tracks were selected and mixed by Rupert & Mennert. Compost and Rupert & Mennert are more than proud to present two shining examples of all the great songs that were sung and produced in the last two decades.

Could one say that this particular ‘Compost Selection’ defines a genre? Well... not entirely. Do all the great vocalists that sang on an immense amount of Compost releases deserve their own spotlight? Well... hell yes!

The first take has the appropriate sub-title: Brothers.

On this very compilation, fourteen tracks are selected and mixed together. With vocal contributions by Robert Owens, Victor Davies, Colonel Red, Marc Frank, Joseph Malik, Ovasoul 7, Jamie Lloyd, Ernesto and many more. The tracks will go back and forth through all kinds of genres. From the deep folk electronic of Zwicker , the latin-jazz by Intuit and the spoken word by General Electrics to the beats by Wagon Cookin’, Daniel Magg, Phreek Plus One and TJ Kong & Nuno dos Santos. Giving you post broken beats by Beanfield and Kyoto Jazz Massive. Ending with some classic crooning from Les Gammas and funky soul by Muallem and Alex Attias.
