Flight Facilities - Foreign Language feat. Jess (Rocco Raimundo Re-Interpretation)

I'm Charley Marley, I’m from London and I make music.  Growing up I listened to punk, reggae and hiphop (Jimmy Cliff, The Clash, The Slickers, Toots and the Maytals, the damned, etc.), I try to bring out my experiences in the shit I put together. I’ve never really had a job but made money in the night club world since I was too young to be there, mainly spinning tunes and throwing parties.  The first night I ran was at a tiny but legendary Caribbean spot in west London called the Globe.  It’s a gritty basement where anything goes. One night an old dread regular there saw me coming in with my guitar and shouted “Oi, play me a tune Charley Marley”.  From that moment I knew if I ever dropped tunes solo - that’s who I’d be. 

So it feels right that my first single “Bad Things With Jamaicans” talks about my time spent there.  It feels like a perfect snapshot of those nights and anyone who partied with us will know exactly what I’m on about.

Charley Marley - Bad Things With Jamaicans

Produced by the surf rock songstress Olivia Jean and recorded by the least Hawaiian guy we know Joshua Smith, this limited-edition flexi disc features 2 Hawaiian versions of Whirlwind Heat classics ("Pink" and "Orange" from the 2003 release (and 2013 re-release) Do Rabbits Wonder?). These hula-rific hits are performed by Fats Kaplin on lap steel, Dominic Davis on bass, and Rachael Davis on Ukelele and vocals, and Olivia Jean on acoustic guitar, and never has a piece of clothing inspired such a transcendent tribute. The flexi disc (TMR323 for you completists out there) is ONLY AVAILABLE to those who are ready to embrace the limited edition Pocket T and spread the gospel of its many virtues. All versions of the Pocket T-shirt will be available starting this Saturday (9/12) at Third Man Records in Nashville, TN. Hawaiian Heat Sampler

Early in 2012, the lads from Flight Facilities told me about a great concept for their Triple J Mix Up residency that was happening later in the year, and had a few tracks that they wanted edited. 
The concept for the mixes being a history lesson, not only musically but including global events that occurred at the time the music was released. 

They asked me if I wanted to work on one for them, and I couldn't go past choosing Lou Reed's 'Walk On The Wild Side'.

The mixes were aired on Triple J (Australia) throughout October 2012 and since no one has ever done anything like this before, 
and due to the incredible track lists each mix has, they've proven to be extremely popular. 

This edit was included in the first installment, which also contains edits by Tim Fuchs, Drop Out Orchestra, The Revenge, Skinny Joey, 
In Flagranti, Villa and of course, Flight Facilities.
