We're entering autumn here in the UK, with winter fast approaching. The evenings are getting dark, cold and moody, just like podcast 21 brought to you by Ninjoh from Bologna! 

Ninjoh has always been a music lover, he spent several years browsing the sounds of detroit techno, hip hop, dub, reggae, french house, trip hop, breakbeat and EDM until he found drum & bass which represents the union of all his musical influences. 

Ninjoh is a member of Bologna Underground Movement which is a local crew that promotes the underground culture in Bologna, organising events focused on bass music. His crew is called Plasma FX, founded in September 2012 by a group of young creative minds with the same passion for bass music and more. Due to this Ninjoh had the possibility to perform at events alongside Noisia, Aphrodite, Dj Hype, Mefjus, Chase & Status, Malsum, Allied, Dub FX, Fable, D-Operatio Drop, Am:x and many more local artists.

Also Ninjoh, along with his friend, Luca Genovese who is a digital visual artist, as well as a devout music lover, is the founder and manager of the Bolo Drum & Bass page on Facebook. Bolo Drum & Bass is dedicated to promoting and spreading the drum & bass culture, nationally and internationally, with a special consideration for the underground movement of Bologna's scene. Thanks to this project he is contributing musical knowledge to the followers of the page, which is still rising.

The track Prozac, see’s Trilo take a slightly deeper approach to his compositions. Cavernous dubwise stabs combine with his unique shadow laden, cinematic soundscapes to great effect, before the tune launches like a full frontal military assault, into emotion tinged screw faced madness. Stomping enough for the ravers and detailed enough for armchair warriors alike. A slick take on how far you can push the DnB framework whilst still retaining enough clarity and punch for it to work on the dancefloor. Reminiscent of early Corrupt Souls & Stakka & Skynet.

To complete the release; Barracks begins with a twisted, organic tinged melody, splashy hats, and a dark emotive

harmony. Leading into a drop that makes a highly inventive use of dubstep-esque micro edits to create a bass 

groove where the tiny moments of silence contained within it almost contain as much forward motion and flux as 

the actual multi-layered, synth tones used to build the enormous sound in the first place.

A load of top names from the world of beats and bass music are donating a track each to a double-CD compilation album in support of a leukemia charity. The comp has been inspired by the untimely passing of Sonia Akow, a DJ, label A&R and PR associate who was immersed in the scene until she died a year ago. 
Sonia was diagnosed with leukemia in November 2012, and a plea was put out for a bone marrow donor. The beats and bass scene united to stage a benefit gig in March 2013 raising nearly £15,000 for various leukemia charities, but sadly, Sonia lost her fight for life on July 3, 2013. 

The 25-track collection is being released in August on Botchit & Scarper, and is entitled 'Push Play' — named after Sonia's PR operation, Push Promotions. Many of those involved worked with Sonia during her time promoting underground music in the industry over the past 15 years. 
All proceeds from the comp go to the African Caribbean Leukemia Trust (ACLT). The compilation album follows a benefit gig in south London In June, with many of the same artists appearing, plus names like Maxi Jazz from Faithless.
