San Francisco duo Triple Five Sol—the combined forces of producers/DJs Johnny Five and Vin Sol—make raw, unvarnished house music steeped in tradition but wired for the future. The pair first connected on a trip to New Orleans, where plans to collaborate took root. Back in SF, with a freshly outfitted home studio, they dove into live jam sessions that quickly solidified into a distinct sound: jacking, analog, and unapologetically raw. Their debut EP, 75 Racks on Dark Entries, is a five-track statement of intent. Cuts like “Boxxx that Rocks,” “Just a Freak,” and “Everybody Loves Triple Five Sol” channel the rough-and-ready grit of ‘80s Chicago and New York imprints like Nu Groove or Gherkin Records, filtered through a modernist lens. On the flip, “Gonna Get Out” and “Halfway Home” bring a soulful lilt and garage shuffle, nodding to TV dance shows and basement sessions alike.
