This mix is a representation of my latest DJ sound, for those chill spaces in outdoor settings. In the last year or so I've been on hiatus DJing as I was focused on being a new dad, but in that time on many car trips from my country abode I dug into the world of Psydub and explored it's sonic landscape honing in on artists and releases that complimented my taste in organic sounds and fusions of world sounds. 

This mix might also be coinciding with an artist applications for Esoteric 2025 ;)

A chill time in the bush

This track was commissioned by the FFCH - 1st CHANGEMAKERs Festival , held in Berlin 23-34 may 2015 to be used as a sound installation.

It is a collage i produced creating a big "palette" of synth sounds, samples, loops, drummachines etc from various sources. Then i played it live using ableton thru various FX and after i edited it.
It was made in few sessions but it retained the spontaneous feeling, and it was much fun so i think i will do more experiments like this in the future.

Okay, time to get weird... 

Have you ever had a track that you know is 140 BPM load on a deck as 105 BPM? If your 140 song is in triplets it will detect it as a slower BPM because when Rekordbox/Pioneer equipment is looking for transients and it is trying to detect 4 stable repetitions to find the BPM. 105 BPM is 3/4 of the speed of 140 BPM giving you a difference of 35 BPM. 

In 2012 before rekordbox was a thing this plagued my mixes, often train wrecking a lot of my early years mixing when I would freak the fuck out and speed the song up to match 140 BPM.

But what if you want to fit an EXTRA beat in the space between your 140 Kick and Snare? This got me thinking of a whole new range of possibilities to blend faster tempo musical elements with 140BPM drums, so well then lets ADD 35 to the BPM giving us 175BPM and change the time signature to 5/4 or 5/8. 

So what is the BPM? Is it 175? or is it 140? Sometimes it sounds like one, sometimes the other, sometimes BOTH!

CHECK is a bit of a crazy one but 5 is my favorite number so I had to give it a try. This weeks tunes will showcase my evolution in balancing the craziness of having drum and bass and dubstep elements collide on the grid.

Mountain Goat - Get Ya Goat On EP (FREE Release)

Triple Drop Productions began when three young producers from Wales (UK) first started tinkering about with various pieces of music software. The trio shared enthusiasm for the intricate structures of dub, dubstep, techno, drum and bass, breaks, psytrance and the many other genres which they had the privilege to explore on dance floors across the country. Over time, they self taught themselves the ins and outs of creative music production. Their musical tastes evolved and their ears began manoeuvring through the various areas of style and genre as they experimented. Saxon Higgs, the founder of the label began his project, Brujo's Bowl. His experience in building this project, along with working for many record labels and events in some of the biggest international underground music scenes inspired him to start Triple Drop Productions. Although the first few releases have been released solely to please the ears of the psychedelic music scene world wide; TDP no longer sets boundaries to any particular style or genre. Whilst keeping this ideal flowing, and not to stagger too much on a random stream of unpredictable foot holes. The focus tends to drift comfortably through the deepest locations of the mind, body and soul. Minimal intelligent bass music and downtempo with a psychedelic, quirky edge; as eclectic and intuitive as can be made possible with the production knowledge of the artists. The label sets out to move, relax, inspire and set the anticipation receptors blinking along this intriguing direction in to the sonic spectrum.
